question 'bout planning

Post by Silas »

i'm currently working on a map that so far seems to be be working fine, only about half the units on the fild move along any path i set for them. i think that half is running on the original planning thing that default maps have. I've never messed with this in a map, as all the ones ive made are usually still working on sides. anywho, i only have a vague idea as to what weights do. I set all of them to 100% for the soldier thing, but none of the units respond to those. can i have some help here?

(to avoid any posts about me looking in the Everything you need thread, i did. the tuts in there were less than helpful to me)

It might be because you eliminated a class from the al path. Did you remember touching anything?

1.) no class is listening

2.) no, the most i touched were the weights. i put all of them at 100% for soldiers. is that a problem?

hmm...this is weird. i put a single path thing in without modifying it. it works great. but when i made another path somewhere else, the units ignore it. even weirder, i got one path in a different area to work. second time i munge, the units ignore it again.

solution: do not modify the path's properties! Just place the hubs and connections and call it a day.

What's the difference between a "single path thing" and an "unconnected path?" Paths are nothing by themselves; they connect different hubs together. I'm assuming by "unconnected path" you mean a single path connecting two hubs (each of which is connected to nothing else). But then I don't see the difference between that and a "single path."

sorry bout the confusion. what i meant by single path is two hubs with a single connection, instead of two connections to a single hub.

and elfie, i tried that. it dont work. i said that already

That's what I thought. Which still begs the question:
What's the difference between a "single path thing" and an "unconnected path?"

sorry i didnt think this would really be such an issue. there is no difference, as they are the same thing. i meant i made two hubs connected, then made another pair somehwere else that did not work. i edited my other post to make this a little more clear

I see what you're saying, now. I wouldn't get too worried over planning, since the BF2 AI are pretty simple. Just make your entire planning setup, making sure it goes over command posts (AI want to go to these, obviously). I think once you've got everything set up, you'll find that it works fine. (By the way, there is no "original planning" like you mentioned in your first post. On the default map the AI just run straight for the command posts, or if it's assault, they just stand around.)
