Halo 3: Mythic Map Pack

Post by Fusion »

I know a few of us on here have Halo 3, and play it, so I thought I'd compile a little guide for you guys about what this thing actually has.

Release:
Halo Wars Limited Edition: February 26-March 3rd, depends on your location (US is the 3rd)
Marketplace: Unknown, although there have been rumors about March 31st

Maps:
Assembly-
"The Covenant war machine continues its march to conquest; even with its severed head it is still dangerous"

A small map, good for 2-8 players on Slayer or other Free-for-All gametypes. It appears to be circular, and is symmetrical, except for the small differences, the pinball-inspired crates on one side and the rough metal on the other. It looks like a smaller Halo Wars-style Covenant base. Except for the Scarabs being built over your head.

Video

Orbital-
"With a lot of situational awareness, and a lot of luck, hopefully the only thing you will lose is your luggage"

Medium-sized awesomeness. Remember the Cairo station in Halo 2? Picture it in Halo 3 graphics with no annoying camera drones or Johnson. 4v4 team games, like slayer, 1-flag, and assault work best. Watch out for the easy-to-walk-into pits though, they are not forgiving.

Video

Sandbox-
"This endless wasteland still holds many secrets. Some of them are held more deeply than others."

This map is just indescribable. It's more like, three maps, than one. The Ground Floor, by default, is set up like Battle/Beaver Creek from the first to games, which is great, but what makes this map great is the fact that there are limitless possibilities of what you can make here. I plan to make two maps on the Sky Bubble. One will be Boarding Action, the Halo 1 map. The second will be a version of Bespin Platforms (obviously changing a few details, adding ground vehicles for instance). Seeing as the Sky Bubble's feature is its hugeness and fall damage, they are possible. The crypt is good for Grifball (shown at bottom) or smaller maps that people would make on Foundry (it's the same size). Changes from Foundry are the 700+ objects you can make (although, the game stops you at 640, you don't want the game to freeze, now, do you? :P)

Video of Crypt

Cost:
Halo Wars Limited- $80 US
Marketplace- 800 MS Points (~$12 US)

I looked for it on ebay and amazon and I only saw it for the 360. Is that the only station its for? Because that's kind of a rip off because not everybody has 360s.

Nice, I had only seen footage for Assembly. Of course I'm stoked for Sandbox, but I gotta admit Orbital looks like it'd be fun to Forge too. I'm glad I finally was able to see the sky bubble that's always talked about. I can totally see you being able to do Bespin Platforms up there Fusion. I'll be remaking Prisoner <--clickable - from the first Halo game. Loved that map. Dunno what to build past that. Haruun Kal? :funny2: Hopefully by the time it's released to everyone someone will have already created an infinite money glitch for Sandbox. Sure, you can't release over-forged maps for online play, but a local machine'd be fine.

Apparently, it's possible to wield the golf club items, as shown by a picture here.

I should have my 360 back the week these come out, so I'm kinda happy this happened now.

Yeah, made this weird cracking noise, then it froze, then it permanently went into RRoD.

When I get my scanner hooked up to this thing I'll upload my plans for Sandbox, I currently have like, 5 maps in planning now :P

So I just found a variant of CTF: Facing Worlds (from Unreal Tournament) for Sandbox. Heh, those guys that got the early beta codes already have variants.

Well, that's the first time I've ever seen an admin double-post. Meh, I don't care.
Anyway, this sounds interesting. Almost makes me wish I had Halo 3.

There was a four day difference and I felt like I was posting something contributing to the thread, but yeah, you caught me.

*WARRANTED DOUBLE POST*

You can actually start downloading variants for Sandbox/Assembly/Orbital before you have the pack. I already have quite a few variants right now (they don't show up, but it will tell you that it's downloaded).

I finished 3 different maps that will be added to my fileshare shortly:

Stone Platforms- "'This would make a good gas mine,' said the citizens of Bespin."
I had to cut out the CIS side's layout to make it fit in the Sky Bubble, but it's replacement should be reasonable. Four platforms were cut on the REP side. It only supports Team Slayer and CTF.

Paradox- "[Insert Description Here]"
A map similar to a floating semi-symmetrical High Ground. Really hard to drive on due to it floating in the air and the Warthog's (lack of) traction. Team Slayer and CTF.

Gonkulator- "Is it a Forerunner WMD, or an overglorified rabbit trap?"
First off, kudos to those who get this Hogan's Heroes reference. Second, this map is inspired completely by Guardian, Lockout, and Sandtrap. Two bases, three levels, one sword. Supports Team Doubles/4v4 Team Slayer gametypes such as Slayer, Assault, King of the Hill, and Flag. My personal favorite.

My friend and I played boarding fraction base of the first halo lelvel boarding action and although it was one if the first maps made for the levels (beta codes) it was very fun.

If it wasn't for amazing 360 only games, then no one would buy 360s.
