-The bridge tool can be used to make holes and still have yellow edges. Select the polygon opposite to your currently selected polygon and go modify > poly. mesh > bridge polygons.
-alt + delete removes stubborn edges/polygons.
-use the dice polygon tool modify > poly. mesh > dice polygons to add subdivisions on any of the 3 axis.
-The curve tool can be used to make rounded surfaces and more specifically pipes rather easily.
-you use the 3 model deformers (point, edge, polygon) the same way in the UV editor as the regular mesh editor. Here is a screenshot of it.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Modify > poly mesh >bevel components makes rounded edges, not recommend for anything other than edges. I havent tried it but I dont expect good results.
