The 3d modelling tips and tricks thread

post tips for your favorite 3D modelling program here. UVing advice counts, but making/editing textures in gimp/photoshop is a no-no

-The bridge tool can be used to make holes and still have yellow edges. Select the polygon opposite to your currently selected polygon and go modify > poly. mesh > bridge polygons.
-alt + delete removes stubborn edges/polygons.
-use the dice polygon tool modify > poly. mesh > dice polygons to add subdivisions on any of the 3 axis.
-The curve tool can be used to make rounded surfaces and more specifically pipes rather easily.
-you use the 3 model deformers (point, edge, polygon) the same way in the UV editor as the regular mesh editor. Here is a screenshot of it.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
V for points, E for edge, P for polygon.
Modify > poly mesh >bevel components makes rounded edges, not recommend for anything other than edges. I havent tried it but I dont expect good results.

I hope you guys find this thread helpful!

If you have a complex model and you try to round it then use

Deform -> Smooth

Attention!: The shape will be lost if you set the smoothing factor too high

If your making an object for SWBF2 in blender use a cube as a scale reference:
add/mesh/cube

The cube is/almost the same height as a stock bf2 player model.

Yep, two XSI units to be (almost) exact.
