Question about modeling. (new model)
Ok, i got the autodesk program. I go to create, model, then new model. It then creates a white cross. It gives me the option to name. Is that name the models name or the scene root's name. And if i make a gun, do i change scene root to dummyroot, or how do i make a dummyroot.
Thanks
Thanks

Ok this time I ain't gonna detail or sugar coat it.
You NEED to LOOK at this thread full, nono BRIMMING with tuts that help u get started.
http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... 36&t=14465
Bet no one pointed u in the right direction, so go for Basic Modelling in XSI(ignore the little statement saying its outdated, it IS useful)
Filefront is hacking up on me, so u ahve to wait till it gets back online though.
Once u DO get it and see inside, all the parts where they talk about M3SDSceneRoot is ACTUALLY the Dummyroot(u will know what I mean when u open the file)
Get it? Inside the tut: MS3DSceneRoot = Dummyroot
k? Good Luck
(and yes, the white cross is a null, and that CAN be named the dummyroot, for your info, MOST OF the models that had ever EXISTED and been through a SUCCESSFUL life is parented under a dummyroot k)

Learn how to use the program before trying to get stuff in game.

Re: Question about modeling. (new model)
Not every model, static objects(buildings, player weapons, etc) don't need a parent null as long as there's a single polymesh or if there's a hierarchy of geometry with child nulls for hardpoints if exported with the Pandemic Tools, don't let guidelines for 3rd party utilities or outdated tutorials confuse you.CodaRez wrote:...for your info, EVERY model that has ever EXISTED and been through a SUCCESSFUL life is parented under a dummyroot

Yeah but well...Mshex is a free exporter and it needs a parent null, so I keep to my principals.AceMastermind wrote:Not every model, static objects(buildings, player weapons, etc) don't need a parent null as long as there's a single polymesh or if there's a hierarchy of geometry with child nulls for hardpoints if exported with the Pandemic Tools, don't let guidelines for 3rd party utilities or outdated tutorials confuse you.CodaRez wrote:...for your info, EVERY model that has ever EXISTED and been through a SUCCESSFUL life is parented under a dummyroot

Re: Question about modeling. (new model)
you could maybe delete the trial and the registry keys after the trial expired and install it again, but im not sure.
