Two questions about team icons

Post by Unlucky13 »

1. Ok, I followed the custom ingame.lvl tutorial and made a team icon. It used the blue texture I made and wasn't semi transparent like the stock icons, just how i wanted it. I made another icon, this time with a red texture. This one, however, was black if you were on the team, but changed to red as I switched teams. Here is a picture to show you what I mean.
Image
Is this fixible, or can you just not have a red textured team icon?

2. Does anyone know what the name for the imperial icon is in the data_***\common\mshs is? I've tried com_icon_imperial and com_icon_empire but the icon just stays the same. There is actually no imperial icon of any kind when you make a map so I wonder if this is possible.

Thanks :)

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but the team color is always relative to the player. No matter what faction you're playing on blue is your team, red is the enemy. Not sure if that clears anything up as I don't really follow.

I concur. Just use the stock texture. There's no way to change the color, red for enemies and blue for allies is hardcoded apparantly.

I probably should have done more testing before I posted this topic. :?

I was really trying to see if I could overwrite the team color just on the icon and it worked! :) I was able to change the team icon color. I just changed the tga of the msh, then cleaned and remunged. Though that doesn't explain why the red one didn't work.

Im trying to get a msh with several textures ingame as a team icon right now.

Unfortunately even if you do have new colors on the team icon, the hologram light still will be Blue or Red (Yellow for Neutral teams).

Although you could remove the light altogether, and just have the team icon. Just a thought.

Eh? How could I have missed that? I thought Yellow was only in SWBF1. 'Course there aren't any instances in SWBF2 where AI-only teams are neutral to both sides, so I suppose that's possible.

Thankfully that is not a problem(I made custom flag cps like in Fragme!'s tut.) I am just trying to change the team icons in the spawn screen.

I just tried a different msh and it crashed, I think I know the problem though.

EDIT
Just figured out my problem. I got my msh ingame and it looks like this:

The spheres that are black are supposed to be red, apparently you can't have anything red in a team icon but other colors seem to work.

They don't actually have their own cp. Plus they aren't neutral, they are just friends to both teams.

Yeah. I found it out by accident a few months ago and I was like "Oh my god!" because I thought I had discovered something. Then it was pointed out to me that it had been done it in archer01's Operation: Ferret Master and Mav's Aquilaris: Deep Sea maps and I fell into disappointment. But ah well, 'tis how things go. In my Battlefront Classic mod I'm making, I have the Tuskens in Dune Sea being Neutral, and it works just fine*.

*However I'm not sure how BF1 does it, but I have the Tusken's view the ALL/IMP/REP/CIS teams as Enemy, to make them more aggressive. Making them Neutral makes them a little, well, passive. Half the time they ignore the other teams. So I fixed it by making the normal teams Enemies.

Actually all local teams require a CP. It's there. Matter of fact, on the stock map, you can sometimes see the AI try and capture it. They stand around on top of it, it's under the map so you never see it.

The spawn point doesn't have to be near the cp. It can be moved anywhere on the map.

There are a few different types of cp.

com_bldg_controlzone - standard cp
com_bldg_controlzone_CTF - uses the swap logo instead of team logo
com_bldg_invisible_controlzone - is invisible (no hologram, invisible on the minimap)
...

In stock maps, most locals use invisible cp's.

I know I've mentioned yellow CPs before, but I can't seem to find the posts... The Deathmatch mode I made uses yellow and white. There's red, blue, yellow, and white. You can use Fake Console to move to different teams, change alliances, and view the different colors. Or play a Deathmatch (dm) mission.

We can change the icon color and the light color for un-changing CPs. What no one has done yet is changed the color for CPs being captured. I assume one could make your own light effect and attached it to the CP depending on which CP capturing events get triggered in the lua. I wouldn't be surprised if the light effect could be changed by something we've overlooked.

I think there's that and ingame movies (inshell movies work) are the two things we haven't been able to do yet.

2) As for the icon locations, I don't remember their names but they should be somewhere. Check in the shell files too. If you've never seem them ingame (GC and Campaign? maps are considered shell maps), they might be kept in the shell.
