Collada (.dae)

Post by Null_1138 »

Hi all. I've been trying to get a Collada .dae that I extracted from a Google Sketchup model of mine to .msh . I've been trying three ways to do this:

1: Use Blender to convert it to VRML 97 (.wrl), which I can then convert to .msh with Tipam's Msh Viewer.

2: Convert it to .obj using Blender, then hope someone can turn it to .xsi and then to .msh .

3: Import it to 3DS Max, but I've haven't even gotten that far before it crashes.

The problem is, I've successfully done it using the 1st method, but it has no textures (I've confirmed that the .dae itself does have them). Its just white, and there are (to my knowledge) no textures referenced in the .wrl . The second method gives me a 1 KB file :? .

I have no experience with hex editing whatsoever.

Which method should I be using, what downloads / plugins do I need, and how do I reference textures in the end result?

Upload the obj you got from Blender and I'll try exporting using MeshEx

Although the
Hidden/Spoiler:
box is a bit outdated. Blender converts much better.

EDIT: I hexed my .dae to recognize the .tga's I made for the model! But now Blender doesn't recognize them. That's sort of where the "I forgot to plug in my halo" smilie comes in.

Wait...... Blender can export to .XSI, then from there Modtool can turn it into a .msh . I think that should work. Correct me if I'm wrong.

He said export using blender into an XSI file format which he is correct, .xsi files are exported through meshex. (if blender can export to .xsi filetype that is). I don't think he suggested using xsi itself. You could give the .dae to one of us here, im sure some1 would happily covert it with XSI (its probably the easiest way that way, i could do it if you want)
