Begginers.... NEED HELP

Post by NovaBlast »

Ok, so I just got XSI 6.0 or whatever.. the right on. Now, I either need someone to PM me a tutoial, or tell me how:
1. Do I make a square
2. Give it a pink texture
3. put it in swbf1

Thanx! :cpu:

Try reading through the tutorial thread, it has texturing tutorials. Also, if you spend all of about 5 minutes in XSI, you should be able to figure out how to make basic polygons.

Here is a Tutorial I made on how to model using basic Sub-Division Modeling. A different approach from Box Modeling, that has cleaner results, less polygons/triangles and verticies and makes skinning/texturing easier sometimes (less polys and verts to handle).

The main project is making a weapon scope using 1 cube, but it covers many tools used (scaling, point moving, sub-dividing, extruding, etc). It also gives the hotkeys and menu directories for each tool. It is doen in version 5.0, but is still useable for version 6.0 and up.

The file is in Rich Text, and has pictures as guides. It is around 80MB big because of that, the download is substantially smaller though.

Hey thanks you guys, but, here is the thing. This is EXACTLY what I want to do. I have made a map (BF1) for my clan, I want to make a billboard that says: Created By
NOVA
And just have it on a white background, with a border, and the poles with textures of the bespin buildings. I have a tutorial that says how to skin and stuff, but it is for the 1000+ dollar version. whaanks for your help guys

Skinning, and everything else for that matter, is the same in the free version, as it is in the 1000$ one.

Under primitives, select cube, then use lord bandu's texturing tut, then export to .xsi format using crosswalk, then have someone with the full version convert it to .msh for you.

Lord-Bandu's tut for texturing doesn't work in 6.0. The buttons and layout totally changed.

Challenger explained to me how to texture a while ago, here's our conversation.

So he told you to make a blank tga, and build the texture on the Defualt UV alignment?

I don't think I could do that, I'd rather just use the texture editor pain that it is.

And bandu's tut works fine if your in the 4.2 mode, which I almost always am.

BTW offtopic, but how would one get an online archive?

Yeah he did, and I did that for a bit.

But, once I learned how to use the texture editor, it's been much easier. :)

Cool guys, but you must remember that I know NOTHING...... so all these terms and stuff you are talking about go right over me.. is there a tut out there that gives you STEP-BY-STEP how to make a simple object (SIMPLE = cube) and texture it and get it in-game.. there has to SOMETHING, cuz everthing you guys are telling me isn't helping

Obviously the tack you're choosing is sitting at your computer, helpless, until someone spoonfeeds you. What you should have done is play around with XSI, and I'm willing to bet that you'd have it figured out by now.

Regardless, what you need to do is create a primitive (in this case a cube). I can't remember what it looks like in XSI 6, but basically you want to click on polygon, or model, or something like that. It should have a graphical representation of a cube for you to select. You can resize it (2 grid squares = soldier height) with the scale tool.

Then you want to create unique UV coordinates (there are actually a number of ways to create UVs, but this one is the easiest to know for any given circumstance). Click on (I think this is in the ModTool viewing format) "Texture" then "Unique UVs." Exit out of the box that appears (you don't need to change anything). Then switch your view from "shaded" to "textured decal."

Select your polygon, then press Alt-7. That'll pop up your texture editor. Then you want to stamp that to an actual .tga. I can't remember the actual menu, but you're looking for "stamp to UV mesh," or something like that. Then create a texture name. That'll then be the texture that you edit.

Now, those instructions aren't perfect; I'm away from my computer right now and can't spell it out to the T for you. But really, all you have to do is put forth a little effort and play around with the tools, and it should become fairly easy.

Well If someone made it for me.. whoopdie doo, i wouldn't have learned anything... unless the person made it, I liked it, and then they told me how to do it... but that would be a long dreary process, I would much rather do it myself.. And I mean, all those good XSI people out there just didnt go... o look a program called XSI, pick it up, and start belting out awesome stuff, they obviously had tutorials and stuff
