Like DarthD.U.C.K. and Nihillo mentioned, it is a closed beta. As I said:
several people have received requests via PM, from me, asking if they will beta test.

You are incorrect.
Maveritchell wrote:

I don't know. Usually I do betas by sending requests to specific people. I might aim to a larger audience with this, since it's a larger mod, but it will stay in GT.
I chose to do what I "usually..do." It's easier for me to keep track of and I can make sure that I get good test results the way I do it.

A few things I need to say

1. Today I was going along on swbf2, and I said, MAN, I gotta update my GT icon. So I go look around on the forums a bit, and sure enough this mod has been coming along greatly. I am going to wait until this mod is done, than take an xfire screenshot, and that will be my new icon

2. Zombie mode?

3. With the new icon, it makes it seem like the Nazi Zombies from cod5...LOL

I see you want the beta to be closed so that it gets done right the first time. There's more to look out for than glitches; the competitive community would like a mod too, and some of us have our eyes on this one. Since Hero combat is what's being revamped the most, you'd do well to have the more recognised Hero Assault players like Sneek and Mawk playtest to see what breaks the game balance wise.

"more recognized" ≠ better
Just because they play with a certain community more often does not make them better. Nay I'd go so far to say that those who mod the game have a better feel for balance than those who play the same semi-unbalanced shipped hero assault. Besides you have no clue the skill level of those who are beta testing.

Those people suck. Bad Idea, I agree with the post above me. I can't believe I haven't asked this already:

Is there a force pull power in this mod?

I agree w/Frisbeetarian. Plus we've got plenty of guys who could be the top players if they put as many hours in as your usual SWBF2 gamer. It's nice to have folks who can play well, but also know the background of how things work to tweak it to perfection. Modders can not only help find bugs and describe them clearly (in my experience with open beta tests your casual gamer can't describe things clearly) but can also sometimes help to come up with a solution.

I'll do well to have my beta tests set up like I have them set up, actually. I always try and get two groups of people for my closed betas:

1) People with a stated interest in my mod who have shown that they can type well and communicate effectively.

2) People I know are very capable of giving me very specific bug reports; usually these are people I know are very familiar with the game or people who have done an excellent job testing for me before

Ideally, both groups overlap some.

Re: Game Balance - I consider myself the most qualified to judge balance on my own mod, for one, because I've spent more time playing it than anyone else. I agree with what's mentioned above when it's said that the experienced modders probably know the game the best; better than anyone who just plays the game a lot (because not only do we also have to play the game a lot for testing, we know what mechanically goes into the game).

That being said, I did intentionally include a couple of people I know are active in the GWL scene and who have a solid grasp of modding the game specifically for the reason you mentioned. Without at least a rudimentary grasp on modding the game, though, I could pick anyone who's interested (category 1 above) and get similar results in terms of what will help me - so if I choose to pick "only-category-1's" then I will simply pick the people most active in the thread in question who fit that category.

Minwu, I'm part of the beta test.

I'll be bringing intense critique and testing of the hero gameplay, and already I have some feedback, good and bad.

Whether or not I'm able to discuss what I have seen here, is a question only Mav can answer, so I await him to come on xfire.

As far as I can say from just an hour's worth of fooling around on it..

It is clearly a superior gameplay to the mechanics given to us by Pandemic. I will be pushing for a slew of ladders on GWL for Dark Times Era gameplay when the mod is released, but in order for that to happen, GWL will need us to work out a system of easily switching between 123+ 2.2 mod compatability and the Dark times modded lvl's, which I have found an easy way of doing, but not many people who compete will like the hastle of it.

Nope. But theres a plenty of other completely new force powers that, with the help of the new melee combat system, will definately make you enjoy the mod even without force pull.

Unfortunately, I am still at a loss for what the new melee combat system is. Please correct me if I'm wrong but this new system is basically heavy and light attacks that, if used in the right order, can cause yoru character to do a special attack. . .

Right?
Wrong?

Light attacks do very little damage but block all attacks, even incoming missiles.
Heavy attacks can kill an enemy non-hero unit with one hit and if you press RMB at every 3rd heavy attack you make a special attack dealing damage to all nearby units and throwing them in the air (similar to mace windus jump attack).

Are you absolutely sure? I don't remember killing them with just a single heavy attack. Correct me if I am wrong.
