Size of a ZE grid square in XSI?

Size of a ZE grid square in XSI?

Someone told me one grid square in ZE is 1 meter - what is its equivalent in XSI? I know how to use the transform tool in XSI, but how do I simply specify the dimensions of the msh to be exactly the size of one grid square? Thanks for the help. :wink:

One grid square in XSI is one meter (for reference, see the ~2 meter tall clone trooper), but I don't know for sure about ZE. If whoever said that is correct then obviously the squares are the same.

In XSI it appears to be 10 "squares" wide, but in game it is a little over 1 "square." It's crucial I can get the width to be exactly one square in ZE. :?

somehow i doubt a square in ze is one meter if the player models are 2. i mean some buildings (small ones) fit in a ze square

My guess would be 8*8 then, since that's a power of two and would make the most sense, from a design perspective (especially since ZE map sizes are done also in powers of two).

yup, that's it, one square in ZE is 8 by 8 in XSI, thanks Mav :)

Only slightly off-topic, in that XSI pic, itFactor, why are your squares all....rectangle-ish?

And I had always thought that ZE squares were 1x1 meters, so when my models came out undersized I always blamed MshEx, lol.

No they're not... The null is just covering up the axis.
Okay, well, if 8x8 is the size of a ZE square, then when you load up ZE, the map is either 1024 m squared, or it's 2048 m squared, can't remember which size it is when you first open it up. I don't know how this info could really be useful, but you never know.

I think the default map in zeroeditor is either 128x128, or 256x256.

I thought you were talking about ZE grid squares :lol: . Didn't see the meters squared part.

XSI is american, one XSI grid is 3 feet.

that's around 8% error margin per XSI grid on a calculation if you expect it to be a meter. It's what, 0.92 meters per XSI grid?

I had to scroll and see if anyone actually posted this, but nobody did.

The units aren't 2 meters tall anyway, that would be abit too abnormal; 180cm on the other hand..

I actually think they covered this in the Documents for SWBF2 as well.

I wonder if the ZE is using the 3-feet measure per grid as well, or if we're actually talking meters there. 8 cm difference is a huge difference if we're talking about 1024x1024 estimated meters.

this could indicate that ZE is using meters, and XSI is using 3 feet. Since I don't wanna sit and calculate, I'll let someone else correct my theory or support it :funny2:

Actually it's Canadian, or at least that's where the Softimage headquarters is located and where development takes place, even before the acquisition by Autodestruct...er I mean Autodesk. :)
The XSI software was designed around a default SI unit equal to 10cm(as suggested by the default settings), but it can be whatever you want it to be(meters,mm,feet,inches,yards,miles,etc).

A single grid square in ZE is definitely 8x8 meters, you can see this yourself in ZE if you use the Tape Measure tool.

The point is, that it's using a different measureing system than the european; yards, feet, inches whatever. And I see the discussion mentioning Meters only, despite that the XSI > ZE is inprecise if you talk about meters.

That was pretty much my point.

So when you say 8x8 meters, are you taking in consideration that 2 XSI grids is 1.8 meter, or taking it worth 1 XSI grid is 1 meter? (it's not, but that's why I ask if that's what you take in consideration.)

Except that's not close enough to be using the same measuring system. Canada uses the metric system and not the English system.

And Ace is talking about the "tape measure" function in ZeroEditor; which is unrelated to XSI.
