I try to give all the units some play time, but my most played units are the snipers and the riflemen.

Riflemen: Good all around infantry. Good for medium to short marksmanship and overall assault roles, though I have been lucky enough to kill enemy units from long distances despite the larger spread. Overall, I play this one the most because I like forming with other squads and charging into battle, though only slightly more over the sharpshooter class (I mainly play Republic).

Sharpshooters: Excellent at long ranges, also good for no scoping when it comes down to desperate measures. :P Autoturret is great for distractions and cover, though can be blown up easily. I feel somewhat more speedy when playing as a marksman in BF2 for some reason. Could it just be me? Excellent for recon roles (on a good day). Thermal dets are one of my favorite weapons in BF2 because I just can't get enough of enemy infantry flying into the air from behind cover or seeing them fly into the wall when looking at the end of a corridor.

Anti-Armor: When I feel like going tank busting, I go for the Rocket Infantry. Between the rocket launcher, the mines, and the thermal detonators, I just can't get enough explosions. They say with great power comes great responsibility....I don't think they factored in just how awesome it'd be to have a rocket launcher or mini-thermonuclear grenades. I don't play this AS much as the other classes, however I can say it's an awesome class. Getting a good lead on targets with the rocket launcher is how I take care of the enemy, especially when they are moving perpendicular. I'm trying to give this class a little more playtime.

Engineer: I don't use this class for combat roles. I just spawn as it, fix up any ammo and health droids in the area, maybe fix a vehicle or two, and then I switch back to a more aggressive role. As much as I like supporting my teammates, I just don't feel like the engineer is one of my favorite classes. I will admit it's nice setting det pack traps, though.

My favorite two classes out of all of these are the trooper and the sniper class...and since I'm more into reconnaissance, I'm going to have to go with sniper, despite my love for the basic riflemen. I have the mindset that the direct approach isn't necessarily the best approach. :)

Engineer is not the best class, but it probably is one of the easiest to play, which is why a lot of people play as it. There's no harm in that. You need to learn to be able to enjoy games without worrying too much about how other people are playing it, provided they play without cheating.
It should be noted that if the engineer really bothers you a simple switch to singleplayer will lead to a significant reduction in the amount of det-tossing, although alas, a blast from a shotgun at five yards will still likely kill you. :P

Yeah, he posted that here.

Feel free to post about the special units here as well; that other topic is pretty redundant. Time to do some fancy work now...done.

My favorite regular unit is the rifleman but not the Super Battle Droid. My favorite class that needs to be unlocked is the Magnaguard. I liked the Jet Trooper in SWBF1 but not in SWBF2.

Yes, sorry about that. I just remembered Mav said it somewhere better than I could, so I copy+pasted.

@ Staff - is there something particularly annoying/frowned upon vis a vis quoting from other threads? I didn't think there was, but I could have been wrong.

I will have to admit that the Super Battle Droid is rather awkward to play sometimes, especially in first person. I don't know why it is, I just feel awkward playing B2's sometimes.

Droidekas are also rather awkward sometimes, however if you get the hang of them and use them wisely, then it's not so bad. I once got a rather high score because I played a Droideka in a tactical mindset and I made sure that my flanks were covered as well.

The downside to the Droidekas are pretty much what is shown everywhere else.

It's fun playing ring around the rosie with them. I usually win against them when I do that...usually....

I usually play as a normal infantery man. I aim good enough to use a standart blaster rifle to snipe and to hit my targets even on the move at mid range. If a vehicle appears I just go out of it's way or hide. I mostly fight defensive, even if I'm more usefull when I take the initiative an just overrun the enemy...
My favourite specialist/officer would be the clone commy. Useless on far distances, but deadly in mid and short range combat.

Speaking of the awesomeness of infantry:

Multiplayer. Mercenary gaming. Stormtrooper the whole time. Others were not.

I've noticed. Mainly Rocketeer, sometimes engineer. They are very OP when friendly fire is off. With FF on, they aren't overpowered at all.

Jedi Battle Arena, the most popular server, Friendly Fire is off. I think Merc is that way too. Few popular servers have it on.

Yeah, Merc is the multiplayer server I have played most. FF is rarely on, and the last time I remember it on was a couple years ago probably.

For like 3 days before the [merc] members who spammed rockets and dets complained to the admins. "This is haaaaaaaaard... We're not winning anymore... Change it baaaaaaaaack..."
