No need to do this if you know how to use the software and know about polygon normals.

Yes there is, otherwise half of your faces will be reversed ingame.

No there isn't, unless you just don't model it correctly from the start or you import someone else's poorly made model.
The blue/white faces being displayed in SketchUp is just how you distinguish back/front faces in that software, if you use SketchUp to model then you should already be wary of this and know how normals work while building your model, no need for a tutorial on this.

Now moving on....

Hey everybody, great news. SketchUp 8 is out. And just wondering, does anyone use this for architectural purposes like I do?

Awesome! I did once use it to try and model my house, but I'm not sure if that counts as "architecturally".

Yeah, I downloaded as fast as I could :D I once had to measure every single nook and cranny to model my house(It's kinda small). It took a week and other than that, no other purpose other than to make models for bf2.

Nice, I just use it to (try) to make original buildings. I'm going to start to make better, more well-thought out buildings.

Time to download sketchup 8, and update the exportation guide.

Oh, and ace, my tutorial goes through assuming that the user has no prior knowledge of the programs, so I go over how to get the polies facing the right way, how to export the model with the textures (which you skipped), how to merge the model in xsi, how to scale it properly, and a few things that seem to help with avoiding texture bugs. Perhaps mine could be streamlined a bit, and I might do that for sketchup 8, but I do try to cover everything in mine.

Edit: anyway, back on the subject of sketchup models, here are 2 fairly recent ones I've been working on:

The first one is from a picture of an m16 my friend took for me, and the other is based off of the FN F2000. Unfortunately, I havn't been able to export wither yet, as I had to do a system resotre recently and meshex no longer works on my computer :(

Oh, and I just updated my tutorial for sketchup version 8.0

Eh..........it's actually Alzoc III, but think whatever you like , :|

And I don't call myself a good modeller. I can't do organic structures right, and I really suck with making high-quality large interiors.

I would like to say I made the backgrounds, but I'm no where near that skill level with Photoshop... I just did some layer effects and blends to them, but anyway...
What's your thoughts on this, GTers?
