Tricky Localization Job

Post by OOM-9 »

I have read the tuts, and looked through posts, and I know HOW to localize for my new maps... BUT, formy Weapon Expansions, all I did was alter the SIDEs themselves seprate from any LUA or map. I used current unit names to trick the game into drawing those units instead of the normal ones.

I.E. I put a SBD information into the ALL_INF_SOLDIER so that when the game calls on the soldier it gets all my SBD info.

However... Localizations seen to be either tied into the maps themselves... into a overall archive, or also in the SIDE .lvl

Are localizatins a combination of all three or one inparticular, and is it possible to relocalize my weapon expansion mods?

Cause the SBD is called "Rebel Soldier" and my droideka is called "Wookie Smuggler" lol and my heros are still called Dooku/Mace and Luke/Vader and they don't even resemble those folks...

Could you re-formulate your request in "easy-to-understand" words, please ?... :| (I'm not sure to understand properly what you ask here.)

What I need to know is WHERE are the default localizations stored? Does EVERY map have a localization file or is there like a MASTER archive installed somewhere ingame?

OR is the localizations stored in the side .lvls?

Why didn't you say that earlier, OOM' ? :D
Default localizations are stored in a file named "core.lvl". (You'll find it in "Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC") It contains localization keys of all shipped maps and sides, etc...
For custom maps, those keys are stored in a file of the same name, located in "Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\AddOn\[modid]\Data\_lvl_pc".

Hope it helps... :wink:

Hrm... SO assuming I create a map using all four of my new sides... and relocalize ALL the units and weapons... so that they are propperly named in the map, I can then take the core.lvl and overwrite the standard one?

Or is there more than just localizations in the core .lvl?

P.S. I need to OVERWRITE the current default localizations.

This is the problem... The shipped "core.lvl" file contains Localization keys (Of course !), but also Shaders, Textures and Fonts...

So is there a way to ram my custom localizations into a core.lvl to sent with my side .lvls to the downloader to overwrite his core.lvl so that all units and weapons are properly named?

i'm not that sure, but i think BFbuilder munges one when it creates maps. But some of the shaders (like Leviathan mentioned) might be missing, and cause the game to run weird...

You need files which aren't included with SWBF Mod Tools...
Now, you have your answer... :(

Wait a minute, OOM'... Are the new names for units longer than the original ones ? (For sample, "Droideka" (The new name) is shorter than "Wookiee Smuggler" (The new one)...)
Just give me a list of the units you want to re-name, with their original names and the new ones you wish to use instead... :wink:

alrighty.. these are the GCW ones as the CW ones are basically ok as is.

EP3 Imps

StormTrooper ---> 501st Trooper

ShockTrooper ---> Shocktrooper

TIE Pilot ---> 121st Assault Trooper

Scout Trooper ---> BARC Scout

Dark Trooper ---> Commando

CIS Rebs

Rebel Soldier ---> Superbattle Droid

Rebel Vanguard ---> Assault Droid

Rebel Pilot ---> Droid Pilot

Rebel Marksman ---> Security Droid

Wookie Smuggler ---> Droideka

After those are all named properly we can mess with heros... for now I need just basic units fixed :P

I could do that for you... But I do not have much time for modding : Consequently, I won't be able to send the tweaked "core.lvl" file to you before the end of the week... :( (I hope you'll be enough patient... :wink: )

StormTrooper -> 501st Trooper : The name you requested is too long : You must choose another one !
ShockTrooper -> Shocktrooper : What's the difference ?
TIE Pilot -> 121st Assault Trooper : The name you requested is too long : You must choose another one !
Scout Trooper -> BARC Scout : Done
Dark Trooper -> Commando : Done
Rebel Soldier -> Superbattle Droid : The name you requested is too long : You must choose another one !
Rebel Vanguard -> Assault Droid : Done
Rebel Pilot -> Droid Pilot : Done
Rebel Marksman -> Security Droid : Done
Wookie Smuggler -> Droideka : Done

I've made a first tweaked version of "core.lvl". You'll find it here. You just have to extract it in the "Star Wars Battlefront\GameData\Data\_LVL_PC" directory. Of course, do not forget to make a back-up of the original "core.lvl" file, first ! :wink:
