How to create models in XSI and other 3D applications and make them work in Battlefront 1 & 2. Post models, tips for application usage and share anything XSI, 3DMax, SketchUp, etc.
im always looking for feedback from various people on models so im just gonna post some WIPs here since im not really modeling them for any game in particular, more for maybe to put in a portfolio some day...
lately ive been working on Raziel from the legacy of kain series but in his vampire form before he became the soul reaver...
i might also do some more of the characters from these games, i like em alot. if you guys dont know who he is just type in raziel in google and youll find him.
yeah if you ever need good references for character models just go to http://the-blueprints.com/ and they have quite a bit, theyre baisic human shapes but you can just build a base character with the proportions you need, add clothing and armor and a good face sketch like the one i found on the net...
i modeled the bust (head, neck and part of the shoulders) with those images then scaled the bust to fit over a baisic male ref and started building the rest of the body.
yeah it took me a long time to learn how to do character models, the main thing is just having the right polyflow and good rotoscope images are a must.
Can you suggest any good and simple to understand tutorials? Most I've seen seem outdated for the program they used (like I've seen some for maya 6, but things have changed a lot since then like the UI and that confuses me).
wow... skinnybone... Were you gonna follow up on anatomy or not? And the... I don't know the word in english for it.. You know - not muscles.. the ones on his neck on the sides... xD They are too.. well - 'strong'.. his whole neck as it is now, is looking like he's using tons of energy on pushing something...
that is just how he looks, hes a vampire, he has muscle but only so much and since he is "undead" he has absolutely no body fat making the 'average' muscles he has very defined.
small update, not much more to do on the modeling side, just body armour and cape.
Pretty sure he was answering Qdin's question, and since his post would've been right under Qdin's post (had you not both posted at the same time), it would've made sense.
And in other news, why would a vampire have muscles but not body fat? Body fat is actually more likely (as inane as discussing likelihoods of the undead can be) to be in something dead than muscle, since muscle is living tissue.
dude i dont know, i didnt design the character, havnt you guys ever played these games? theyre incredibly popular. modeling over the sketches i found on the net of him, besides its just a base mesh, itll be taken into ZBrush where tons of detail will be sculpted onto it, where i can easily change the shape of the tendons on the neck however i want. think of this model as a rough start before the normal maps are generated.
Lol, I wasn't asking you to describe the science of how it works. I was just poking fun at the fact that you said that he had no body fat because he's a vampire. Not that he doesn't have body fat, which of course I can accept. Besides, what video game has less-than-sculpted heroes?
ah well i changed around some of his abdomen, the ribs were too defined and i brought out the area surrounding his abs more so he doesnt look so skinny. i just watched the opening movie to soul reaver about 20 times sketching out parts of his body armor since there really isnt any reference of his vampire form on the net other than those good ones i had of his face. ill post some pics of how thats going once i get to modeling them. id also really like to see some more people here post some stuff, i know you all cant be modding ONLY SWBF2.
3 things:
- what's a 'tendon'?
- Dude, you said yourself you were gonna aim for the anatomy.. Stick to what you've said, will ya?
- and what games..? I'd bet it's one of those games which were only known in USA...
So basically, your conclusion is that you don't know exactly what you're gonna do because you've got so many drawings?
Btw, I wasn't talking about muscles.. I was talking about the bones. His joints are close to break.. adding further armor doesn't help xD
That's some really good work on that model mini, I have zero experience with sub-d modeling, but you are definitely coming along nicely.
I would post some stuff here, but so far my modeling interest don't branch out any further than the Star Wars universe which is what got me into modeling to start with.
