This should be a quick question.
Is there any particular tool or method that should be used when trying to make amour scratches, scorch marks, dirt stains, or anything else in that general category on skins when using GIMP?
Any help would be appreciated.

for dirt i would use dirtbrushes you can get on deviantart for example
scorches can be done with the galaxybrush you smudge

but if you dont smudge it it will look unrelistic because it repeats so often

does that matter? if you use the same brush often on the same skin it looks repeative
