So the culprit was either my sound card's driver (which I'm hoping it isn't, because I like to have iTunes open while I work on BFX) or that registry key.

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
Alright, it's been solved - for now. I just went through a series of driver upgrades, which included my audio card and video card. I downgraded my video card's driver, no luck. So I went into Revo Uninstaller (awesome uninstaller program, cleans out files and registry entries left behind by the installer) and uninstalled my audio card driver. In the leftover registry entries list, I noticed that it had a key which had "BF2" in it, and was pointing to my D: drive. SWBF2 is on my C: drive. So I deleted the registry keys, opened up SWBF2 and - voila! - it worked. I don't have any sound, though...
So the culprit was either my sound card's driver (which I'm hoping it isn't, because I like to have iTunes open while I work on BFX) or that registry key.

I hope you fix your problem and good luck
. BFX is going to be so awesome I can't wait.

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
i think the sound is missing because you uninstalled the audio driver, if you have reinstalled it and its still missing then you should check out for viruses/spyware and restore your system if you have any save points
(but i prefer the most radical way: reinstall the system, it helps always, but it means hours of reinstalling software)

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
Well, yeah. I'd be very, very surprised if the missing driver was not causing the loss of sound. My computer's pretty secure - I've disabled all unnecessary services, I'm behind a hardware firewall, I've got Avira AV and Threatfire, yada yada yada... The list goes on.
I am planning to downgrade to XP sometime, though. Preferably after BFX is done. Vista sucks. However, it does look very nice, so it's a good thing that someone came up with Vista Transformation Pack.

i use XP with VistaMizer, its still XP but with Vista look, however id suggest you to take another one, the only problem is that some parts of VistaMizer like transparency mod are causing troubles (like Internet Explorer isnt working anymore while Firefox works fine), therefore i uninstalled them

@arc_commander I use the Vista transformation pack. It is fully stable and BFX works on it too! Much better than vista because it has less bugs, but it does not run on windows xp with service pack 3.

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
Are you talking about the orbital strike that the recon droid is supposed to have? If so I think that was removed. But the Shadow Stormtrooper has orbital strike on some maps and it works fine.

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
Recon droid hasn't has orbital strike since BF1. I had it on the commander binoculars, but removed them in BFX 2.1. The binoculars will be back in 2.2, but with no strike. Some recon units do have orbital strike, though. But there's a bug in the game itself that will make the OSB crash every now and then.
Off-topic starts now:
And in a strange turn of events, Vista, to my utter amazement, has fixed itself! So I booted up my laptop about five minutes ago, and Windows greeted me with the startup sound at 100% volume. I took a look at the Sound control panel, and Vista actually went in and installed a generic sound driver for me. iTunes works fine. But now I have discerned why SWBF2 was crashing. It's the "mixer config." I have to set it to Disabled, or else - instant CTD. Weird
I've researched it, and I'd say Vista Transformation Pack is best, BTW - it gets updated regularly, for starters. (BricoPack hasn't changed since the Longhorn days.) I had BricoPack on my old XP laptop, which I then wiped and put Ubuntu on. It was decent until I broke the laptop's power pin. It was cheaper to buy a new laptop, than fix it. I'll probably run a dual-boot XP / Ubuntu system. The Compiz graphics on Ubuntu are insanely good.

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
try a fresh install of BF2. You have to install the patch last for it to work. Well that's what I did and it worked.

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
They're supposed to turn white. They were edited so they would seem like stick maps.

if you want convo pack maps being yellow, install phoenix 1.8.3 (not 1.8.4), but BFX wont work properly

Re: Battlefront Extreme 2.1
It actually doesn't exist anymore. It's a bug that'll be fixed in the future.
