Modding? Possible? I Sure Hope It Is...

Post by jawajuice »

Okay.

I think I might start taking up modding . . .

I'm really gonna need some help on this and I have no idea how to munge and all that jazz.
I'm basically stuck. I really want to do this but I don't know what to do. And skinning. I've heard that is really hard, but I think I'm willing to take the risk. One of the things thats really got me wanting to learn all this stuff is a map that I want to make based off of the Republic Commando books. I'm hoping to do a whole series of maps based off all four of the books considering I would have put enough into these maps, the fourth would come out by the time i'm done with at least the first map. I remember I tried this once and didn't actually create the map because of a problem w/ the readme's that contained the instructions. But like I said before I am willing to do it again. I was wondering if someone could explain to me the basics of creating maps, skinning, and modeling. Because of course anybody new to something would want to learn from the pro's! Help?

Which part from the Getting Started.doc are you having trouble with?

actually quite a few of the .docs for example: the zero editor.doc.

If i may add this is not the only .doc that is not working properly (when i open the .doc it doesn't respond); (Not Responding, is what it says on the blue title bar).

Is their anyway we could talk more about this on Xfire?

If so I guess it's best to delete or lock this thread

Here is the SW Battlefront Wiki
The Getting Started.doc is still working on getting up there and formatted (though all the text is there), and the Zeroediter_guide.doc is up and fully formatted.

yay the modding wiki! use that for getting started, definitely. also, the only doc that really made a lotta sense was getting started doc. however, its not complete on how to add vehicles, so dont rely on that doc for everything.

If you're going to posting the entire contents of those documents, you really should be putting sources on those pages too.

What program are you using to open the documentation files?

Sadly, because of the fact that Microsoft word and frontpage had somehow ended their trial when it was a bought program, all I have is Wordpad and Notepad.

All I really need to view the scripts is Microsoft '97 word

And D.U.C.K. that whole sending me to a virus infected website wasn't very funny. I'm lucky I have Avg 8.0. Plus, I'm not paying for some rip-off of Microsoft Office.

Caleb: do you feel like making a jedi (or sith) holding two lightsabers in reverse?
This will help me a lot in future mod maps If i make them. :|

Edit
Double post: It's works!!

But here's the thing I have to say yes on all these dang errors. It's a pain in the butt.

Oh and caleb, can you make a list of the latest programs for modding, modeling, skinning, and making vehicles for me please?

* XVI32 (Free Hex Editor, useful for opening/editing msh files)

Skinning

* GIMP (free image editing software useful for skinning)
* Paint.NET (another good free image editor)
Free XSI 6 Mod Tool Software wrote:XSI 6 Mod Tool is a free and powerful personal learning edition of XSI, it's useful for modeling/texturing/animating and setting up your scenes which you can then send to someone who has the full version of XSI to export your scenes to msh which will be compatible to use in SWBF2 or you could use RepSharpshooter's MshEx utility to convert your scene to msh after exporting it through Crosswalk first.
