Getting Custom Effects to Work

Post by t551 »

I'm having some problem with custom effects in my new side. I managed to get an ordnance trail working by modifying the CIS gunship missile effect.

However, I'm having trouble getting a custom muzzle flash to work. Basically, it's three sets of particles going out in three directions. It seems to work in the editor, as far as I can tell, but it doesn't show up in game.

Part of the problem may stem from the fact that I don't really know what I'm doing with the particle editor, so help there would be good, too.

Okay, say the original .FX file was called com_sfx_muzzleflash (for example), then save the new .FX file as a different name. Then go to the ODF where the effect is mentioned and change it to your new name. Then stick the new .FX file in the side's effects folder. If multiple sides use that effect then just stick it in their effects folders as well. Hope that makes sense, I tried to keep it nice'n'simple.

No, I know that, I have already gotten some effects to work. The problem comes with substantially modifying an effect.
