Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map [Solved]
I'm probably just overlooking it, but I can't find in the FAQ where it explains how to change the sky texture of a ground map. I've tried messing with the SKY file with no luck. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Re: Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map
Easiest way is to just copy the .sky file from the map you want (if you want the mygeeto one, copy the one in the MYG folder in the assets). Then rename it to your three-letter map name (ie. ABC.sky). Then open the file, find the geometry (.msh file) that it uses, and copy that out of the mygeeto folder. You'll also need to copy the texture for the .msh file (usually mentioned in the texture line in the .sky file). Now you have the mygeeto sky.
If you want to use a custom texture, just rename your texture to the same name as the mygeeto one (obviously get rid of the mygeeto one first).

Re: Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map
I'm wanting to use a space texture. One with all the stars and whatnot.
EDIT: Looks like I should be able to do it with what you said though. I'll try it out.

Re: Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map
Do you mean a space map texture, or just a texture of space? Have you tried doing that anyway? I don't know if they're set up any differently, but its worth a try...

Re: Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map
Yeah, I realized that after I replied. I'll try it out for the space map SKY file and let you know if it worked out.
EDIT: So, here's what I tried, but didn't work.
I copied the text from tan1.sky into my myg1.sky. Then, I found the tan1_sky_dome.msh and tan1_sky.tga and copied them into my world2 folder. After munging it, the sky is just black. No texture at all. I tried renaming files and changing some text in my myg1.sky file, but that didn't help. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Just to clarify, I took the stock Mygeeto map and made it starship friendly and added capital ships. I didn't start from scratch.

Re: Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map
Is myg1.sky the right name for the file? It expects a certain name (its stored near the top of the #$%.wld in your world folder) so check that you've named it right. If you copied EVERYTHING over from the assets folder that probably won't be a problem, but its worth checking.
Also, its worth trying a clean and munge. You'd be surprised how often that can fix things.
Please post your .sky file as well.
EDIT: Heh, I just checked out the .tga file you're using, and it literally is just a black texture.
You'll need to edit/replace it if you want some colours. I suggest using gimp or photoshop if you want to edit it, or else you can just find an already-existing texture to replace it.

Really? It's just a black texture? Wow. Didn't even think of that. Looks like I'll be breaking out Photoshop CS2.

If you're keen to get into the space assets and fiddle with the skydome or the textures, they were actually released a while back.

Re: Changing Sky Texture on Ground Map
Thank you! DLing now. I've been messing around in GIMP (my photoshop is on a different computer) and I can't get my texture to work. I'll try one of these.
EDIT: The weirdest thing worked. I just opened one of the sky files for a space map, copied the text into my sky file and everything worked perfectly. I didn't copy any other files or anything. It just worked.
So, if you want to use a space map sky texture on a ground map, open up one of those Space sky files and copy it into your SKY file.
