Ever noticed how the AI handles recon droids terrible? Like how a magna gaurd will stand out in the middle of now-where, exposed, and will he uses a little droid to shoot a tiny green laser at you?
I just thought of this when having a nostalgic trip on my mod map and am too out of practice to implement it in a timely matter, but what if you used lua to capture the name etc of a recon probe vehicle every time one was spawned by a non human player, then deleted it and respawned a recon droid unit (instananeous) with AI of its own?
This effect is that the AI officer class would be able to launch a hunter droid while still trying to kill you with their mortar launcher?
From what I remember the game should be able to do it and I'm not sure why it never occured to me or anyone else before...
It would make a great addition to patch style mods, or for extra modes if it kills online compatibility...

Couldn't you make it self-piloted the same way the Auto Turret is, through an ODF line?

Yeah perhaps, but make it dynamic via lua only for the AI units so humans can still use them as is.

Ohhh, I see. You could use a OnCharacterDispenseControllable + IsCharacterHuman + SetProperty rig somehow to change the odf of the recon droid....but then that would affect all the recon droids.
Or you could set up the AI-guided recon droids as a separate local team, friendly to whichever team has the recon droid (make 2 local teams if both sides have the recon droids) then OnCharacterDispenseControllable, IsCharacterHuman (character) = "0", then teleport one of these recon droids to the dispensed droid's location and kill the dispensed droid.
But with the second case you have the problem of not scoring points with the droid.
