Admin Mode help

Post by matax91 »

Well it seems I cannot load a map unless I run as administrator, but the maps I'm currently working on are not showing up when I do so.
How can I get them to show up, even when I'm in admin mode?

What OS are you running?
When you say not loading, do you mean they don't show up in your instant action mission list?
Have you checked your addon folder to make sure that the map is showing up there correctly?
Where do you have SW:BF2 installed?

sorry I guess I should have posted that up, I have win vista ultimate 32-bit (please don't ask why)
I see the maps there but when I go to play one it loads all the bubbles, opens the map for a brief second and then closes to the desktop, running it in admin mode helps play the game without that crash but the maps don't show up
any other maps I dl'd from FF show up

I ahve it saved in the normals place, C:/Program Files/LucasArts/Star Wars Battlefront 2

You answered my other questions, but not this one. This is crucial, because as it stands it sounds like a munge problem and not a computer problem.

When the map runs but no world shows up, it indicates a missing [MOD_ID].lvl, but I'm not t as sure why your are getting different errors when running it as administrator. I assume that when you say the world runs, you mean the side selection screen shows, but it's black in the background and selecting spawn does nothing.

You could try running it through BF2_modtools.exe and post what your BFront2.log has in it.

well let me try to explain a bit better...

not running it in admin mode, the maps DO show up in the map selection list, but when I click it, select what game mode and all that and hit launch, the bubbles come up and when they are done loading, the map itself comes up for a brief second and then the game closes to the desktop

However I just, liek just as I was typing this, looked in my addon folder and the map is not there at all, strange, I'll copy it there and see what happenes

EDIT: ok well I added the map in the addon folder, and it showed up this time, but I'm still getting that loading error, my maps name is ABC and when going into the LVL folder, the ABC.lvl is there so I don't know.
Also what did you mean running it in the mod tools, what file do you mean and how am I supposed to do that?

It's not there because it's in your Virtual Store. Check in C:\Users\[UserName]\Appdata\Local\VirtualStore\[Location of addon folder under C:].

When you don't run as administrator, what do the maps look like after they load but just before they crash (i.e. after the bubbles finish).

the same as a normal map that has been munged with nothing on it, its just a plain sky and a plain ground and my troopers pop up, strange thing is I think it worked before I tried adding things into the map, not sure tho

You are going to have to do the last thing I said in my second post to see what's wrong, though I still find it peculiar that you get a different result running as an administrator.

run the game through modtools exe

also try going to control panel/sound/recording and right click then show disabled devices then right click all the disabled devices and enable them. that solved my game crashing before

It's not your game crashing, it's only the mod maps crashing, correct? If so you can ignore that.

If you notice, inside the BF2_ModTools folder, there's something called BF2_modtools.exe. Copy that into the LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData folder. Once you run that, a file called BFront2.log will appear in the same folder. Open it and paste the contents here (preferably under a hide tag).

Heh, I just mentioned that so the page doesn't get too long. It's right above this box I'm entering text in.
