New Tutorials

Post by CarbineImpulse »

I think it's getting harder and harder to find info in the forums regarding modding SWBF. There must only be a certain amount of parts of SWBF that are moddable, teams, skins, models, XSI, lighting sound effects etc... however the number of threads for Modding SWBF is now 835 with posts numbering (currently) 10078. Simple stuff must have been repeated numerous times, even with the sticky threads etc. Anyway the point I'm trying to make is that I think it's time for some more downloadable tutorials. Currently there are 3 with there also being links to Saturns tutorial etc.. even adding that as a download may help a bit. Several people also want to add their knowledge and share it with others (I think Rends started off a thread along those lines) and someone else had the idea of an encyclopedia, or wikipedia or something. All of which gives the impression stuff needs to be easier to find here (as well as the increasing number of "I tried to find the answer to such and such but couldn't find it" type posts). The easiest way to do this I reacon would be to have more downloadable tutorials or perhaps subdivide the modding SWBF section of the forums down into other parts. I don't know, what you guys think?

Probably the basic modding in XSI one, failing that try http://www.saturnlabs.net/Tutorial_Lava ... ge_00.html for saturns tutorial which was a great help as a starting point, the documentation that comes with BFBuilder is also pretty good too. hopefully with easier to find info etc... all parts of map macking & modding will be easier for all, which can only be a good thing. Good luck with your map reklan

Well... what all do you need to do for your tutorial? Just write it and submit? If so i wouldn't mind writing a couple to help out other modders.

maybe initially picking stuff up that we know and can get from the sticky threads etc... write it up with pics and stuff and I guess probably worth submitting it to one of the real top notch guys here to let them edit it or add comments.. expand on it or whatever. just an idea. it would need their cooperation too obviously, but if we all pitch in it should be pretty easy (i assume).

I want to add that if you're gonna write a tutorial, please, please make sure to dumb it down for those of us who are not as knowledgeable as others in terms of map-making. I read the other tutorial and it goes way over my head, I think it also skips a few steps. Make a tutorial assuming no one has ever heard of editing in their lives, make sure to show all the steps, even if they seem like small things, plus as I am a visual learner, make sure to include a picture or some kind of reference for every single step. As not everyone has the same learning ability, some learn from just words, but people like me need a lot of visual reference. Thanks.

Basic tutorials needed by noobie modders like me:
How to add modified/new vehicles to maps (maybe from Majin)
Everything regarding editing/creating units (could be several tuts, from maybe OOM-9 or Saturn)
Everything regarding eiting/creating weapons (maybe from Astute or OOM-9)
