Adding Custom Units to Existing Sides [Solved]

Post by Rugos »

Hi, I'm new, and if this question is ridiculous, say so instead of rofling.

How can I add mod units from pre-existing sides? (Ex, give the jet-trooper a sniper rifle). And how can I change weapons and textures (mebbe msh's to) in pre-existing sides?

Copy the side from the modtool's assets to your data_*** folder and change everything you want. Then munge it and replace the original file with the new one (backup before).

I tried that, but the game crashed. (I'll try again).

EDIT
GAAARHH, it loads from the conversion pack sides, and therefore when I replace the default ones, nothing changes. Where does the conversion pack (2.0) load it's files from?

Weapons can be changed through the units odf
and Texture through a program like Gimp

I've done the basic: made a new folder for my side, copied all the stufz from assets, barely edited, but the game keeps crashing. I'll play a map, and it will show the map load screen, then finish loading, then crash.,

EDIT
Keeps crashing!

Anywho, sorry for dp, but this is a thing by the the munge: Anything fatal?

Post your BFront2.log...
Hidden/Spoiler:
Question - I have the CD version of SWBF2 and I get a binkw32.dll error when trying to launch the BF2_modtools.exe, what's wrong?
Answer - The BF2_modtools.exe is the debug executable, copy it from C:\BF2_ModTools and paste it in the same folder as your BattlefrontII.exe, usually:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData
then you can launch BF2_modtools.exe and play your map then exit or let it crash to generate a BFront2.log located in that same folder.
If you have the DVD version check THIS LINK for a DVD version of BF2_modtools.exe

You have to copy the Common folder from the sides folder in the assets folder into your worlds side folder as well. Then try a manual clean and re-munge.

Actually, I managed to get it to work, thanks. I had realized that I needed to munge it with the common folder, so I did.
