Map Loading movie
I'm assuming we're unable to create loading movies for our maps (by which I mean the movie when the lines come together to form the square and zoom in etc..) . Ok well a while back I had this weird problem either with BFB or something, I'm really not sure, however the outcome of this was that with the maps that I created would work fine however it changed the actual wording in SWBF itself. Ok sounds weird. I was getting to grips with the modtools by initially taking a shipped level from the assests folder and modding it slightly as a test. The maps as I say worked fine however when the loading movie started up instead of "Hoth" or wherever it would say "null" and instead of loading it would say "null" as well. I can't remember if the character/units names were effected like this, however when you paused the game rather than your usual options, it came up with what I suppose may have been the names given to the same options when SWBF was being constructed.
Anyway I sorted the problem out (probably by reinstalling) however I got to thinking that maybe the loading movies use an external scource for the text in the intro. If Hoth in the loading movie was changed to null (by the problem) maybe it is possible to change this to something else. Using the same loading movie but changing the planet name to whatever you want would add a nice finishing touch like changing "Naboo" to read "Alderaan" that sort of thing. Sure everyone would know that "Hey isn't that the Naboo intro?" but I thought it might make it look just that extra bit slicker. Has anyone else come across this or would know if it's possible to change the wording?

RE: Map Loading movie
huh?
I'd like to create such movies myself too
but I asked around, and it SHOULDNT be possible
so let me see what I understood:
you made the map load the Hoth Intro?
and it was called: Null?
and your theory is:
Change the name of Null, to another name - like Alderaan - and STILL see the original zooming? like this: you used the Naboo: Theed zoom - but renamed it into Alderaan: Something - and it SAID the planet was Alderaan:Something and zoomed in with the movie used to Naboo: Theed?
I'd like to know where you even FOUND the LoadingScreen/MapIntro or whatever it now must be called

Answer to all the above is pretty much... "Dunno". I created a new project in BFB, can't remember what I called it.. it doesn't matter. Once I createdmy new project I just copied all of a shipped world into that projects folder so everything was copied I didn't pick out specific files. Cleaned and munged. Ok now usually this just create an exact duplicate of the shipped world that you copied across, this includes the intro movie zoom. However when I tried the same when that previous time (when there was an error with something) then the out come of the exact same process was the same, you got a fully working version of that level, however the planet name in the loading screen said "Null" as well as the word "loading" that all said "null". There were also diferences in text when you paused the game. Now all this occured because of the error, non manual changing on my part. I had initially assumed that the wording in the loading movie was actually built in, however having seen that it said "null" when the error occured I figured that it must be calling in the planet name from an external (and possibly editable) file. The same with the wording for loading and the pause screen options. Maybe they call in the appropriate wording (from another extrenal file) in order to make sure that the language fits the game.. ie it applies the spanish text to that item or the german or what ever... to which ever language version of the game you have. Now if these files are external and called into the loading movie (which because of the loading movie problem that I had they must be) then surely there must be a way to mod the text that is being called. Now this I figured could be used to our advantage. If we knew which file needed to be modded then we maybe able to change the planet name on any of the shipped loading movies. Ok so how would this benefit us? well I figured that if you wanted to have a battle set on... I dunno some made up ice planet called "Square Pants", you could use the Hoth or Rhen Var loading movie and mod the planet name (if we knew the appropriate file or imported piece of text to mod) from "Hoth" to well whatever you wanted. The result of this would be the shipped loading screen but with your choice of planet name.
Now I think of it weren't the planet names in the loading screen only added in one of the patches (probably the first) or were they always there?

Planet's name and the "loading" word come from "core.lvl"...I had initially assumed that the wording in the loading movie was actually built in, however having seen that it said "null" when the error occured I figured that it must be calling in the planet name from an external (and possibly editable) file.

RE: Map Loading movie
Using SWBF Mod Tools, no... With an hex-editor, yes... In "core.lvl" are munged all shipped localization keys. Here you can change planets' name, name of menus, etc... But do not forget you can't add stuff using hex-editing...

Before I explain this term, we're going to try something else to give your custom loading movie a planet's name. Go in your "Data[modid]" folder, and select "edit_pc_addon_localize.bat". Once Language Editor is open, create a scope - At the root of the organization chart - named "planets". Next, create a sub-folder in this scope with the same name as the folder inside "Data[modid]\Worlds". Then, create two keys in this scope, called "name" and "name_wide". Finally, edit their content with the name of the planet you want to see in the Loading screen...
If you want a preview of the Localization Tool's screen, look at this :

Code: Select all
+ planets
|__ + [modid]

Ok Lev, I've followed your instructions above, so how do I go about calling an appropriate looking loading map movie for my own map having now got my planet name parameters set etc... I've tried but to no avail to recreate the problem that I had initially, however I'm not even sure if I can attach a map loading movie (with the planet zoom) any more.

ok, In the game when you select a battle up comes what I call the loading movie, it's the bit where you see the universe, then blue lines and zoom in, then planet, blue lines and zoom in etc... all the way down to location of the battle. Ok now when it's doing all the zooming in business it's got the planet name up in the top left hand corner, this is probably gained from calling the planet.name part of something. Now suppose you had a mod map set on.. errr oh Earth! Well you could use the Kashyyyk loading movie for instance (so zooming in on Kashyyyk), however instead of reading "KASHYYYK" in the top left hand corner it says "EARTH" by possibly changing the planet.name value as you mentioned. That way when you wanted to play your mod map it's integration as part of the original game would look much better. Hopefully that makes more sense.
