Fake Console Question

Post by Sawyerdk9 »

Hey everyone. I reinstalled BF2 the other day and was going through a few things to adjust the game. I munged a new ingame file so that the effects would not appear when you got powerups such as buffed offense or defense. I find them somewhat annoying and they can add some extra lag. SOOO..........before replacing the ingame.lvl files I had installed the Dark Times mod and I'm pretty sure that it added the fake console. Then I added my new ingame.lvl and the fake console was gone.

Basically my question is what lines would I need to add and would it be in the ingame.lvl to make give myself the fake console.

ps-I'm not a noob, I did do a search and didn't find any results. I used to have an account here around the time BF1 was going out and BF2 was coming in.

If you install the unofficial v1.3 patch (which includes fake console, free cam, and whatnot), there's a .bat file that lets you toggle award effects on or off. No need to create your own ingame.lvl.

Oh, and welcome back. I thought I recognized the name.

You can no longer mix and match lvl files. You could with the first shell mods, but then those mods started becoming dependent on changes in other lvl files. Because of possible conflicting changes, the v1.3 patch was born.

Like Xavious said, you can download the lite version of the v1.3 patch. Its installation menu has an option to disable those effects and the HUD changes. You'll see the options after you install the patch.

If you don't want to install the patch (it doesn't harm anything, so I don't know why you wouldn't want it), then you need to change ifs_pausemenu. Just prevent the fake console button from being hidden. I don't have the file with me, so I can't say where exactly the change is. Near the top of the file is the list of buttons. Find the one relating to the fake console, then search through the code looking for its tag. You'll have to change at least of one the spots which come up.
