Files to big

Post by Syth »

I want to work on releaseing my map but the files are wwwwaaayyyyy to big.
Heres what i did. I went to my rep side and deleted all the MSHs i didnt need (since mshs take up room). Then I cleaned and munged, looked my LVL PC/SIDE/REP and it was still whoping 227 MB (didnt change). i did the same thing to the ALL side and no change.

Did I miss something? do I have to delete my uneeded ODFs too? Does any one have any tips and such on squishing the LVL PC files down?

Meshes don't actually take up too much room, the targas do.

WHy does everyone who does custom sides copy over the entire shipped side? You should make your own custom side using only what you need, and then everything is much easier.

To make it short what t551t552 might not have explained right: Asuming you only want 5 classes of soldiers, you delete ALL the files which doesn't have anythign to do with your map aka wht you own't use nor need such as the Flyers, vehicles and alike. THAT is how you reduce it :P

For not to mention I assume you know what you've modded, so it sholdn't be that difficult to delete all the other unneccessary files? :)

It's 100000x easier to just remove whatever you don't need from rep.req. So if you're just using the episode III soldiers, remove everything else. It won't munge what it doesn't need, making your side really small. But t551t551 is absolutely right, it's much smarter to make a new side instead of replacing rep.lvl.

Well, I know in my case, things like this dont apply. I've redone entire sides so they share so few similarities to their parents, even once I delete the unneeded stuff, they still size up pretty large (not as bad as yours though...sheesh). Remove unneeded stuff from the .req, and if you plan to be releasing many maps with the same side, heres an idea:

Release the side, for potential downloaders to put in their data\_lvl_pc\side folder. Then you can just start calling your side from the root game (remove dc:). This way, they only have to download each side once, as opposed to with every map.
