Slow Loading Issue[Solved]

Post by AnthonyBF2 »

I got a used laptop with 32 bit Vista SP2

I install SWBF and SWBF2 and it takes an insanely amount of time to load a map. In single player it is tolerable but it takes so long online, that when the map finally loads, I lose connection to host because what ever server it is times me out.

Once the game loads, it plays just fine. No lag, can run lowish settings, which I don't mind.

Computer Model is
Dell Latitude D610

Specs:
Operating System
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP2
CPU
Intel Pentium M 750
Dothan 90nm Technology
RAM
2.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 199MHz (4-3-3-9)
Motherboard
Dell Inc. 0D4571 (Microprocessor) 60 °C
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1024x768@60Hz)
Generic PnP Monitor (1024x768@60Hz)
Intel Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Chipset Family (Dell)
Intel Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Chipset Family (Dell)
Storage
111GB Seagate ST9120821A ATA Device (ATA) 43 °C
74GB Seagate ST980811 AS USB Device (USB (SATA)) 39 °C
3GB USB DISK 2.0 USB Device (USB)
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDRW/DVD TSL462C ATA Device
Audio
SigmaTel C-Major Audio

Is there a way to make the game load sooner? Fast enough to join multiplayer games.

199MHz for RAM is EXTREMELY slow (mine is almost literally seven times faster @1333MHz) and the most likely reason for slow loading times. (The memory speed determines how fast applications can essentially load data onto the RAM.) Your best solution would be to upgrade your RAM, preferably to RAM that's at least 667MHz if your motherboard supports it.

Memory clock is not the same as data rate.

So? I was giving a point of reference to how old/slow his hardware was, and I never even *mentioned* data rate. Even then, DDR2-199 is still LEAGUES slower than DDR3-1333.

Still, I think the fact that he is only running 2 GB RAM is shabby.... I have 10 on my lappy

What you mentioned is your data rate.

Anyway, searching for this issue, apparently it can be fixed by running the game in windowed mode. If that doesn't work, try defragmenting your hard drive.

Had more ram laying around, swapped it and it cut the loading down. It sticks but works better. Thanks.
