2142 Issues
Just yesterday, I bought this game knowing that I would have a good time playing it. Yet, after I installed the disc, I clicked on the icon for 2142. And for 5 seconds, a black screen appears, disappears, reappears, and gone, I am back to the desktop. I'll have you know that I have downloaded every single driver. I have checked every forum to find answers to how I could get the game working. I even went as far as to unistall the game and windows itself.
The only thing that I know is that my AMD processor might not be applicable with 2142.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Why do you think your processor is the problem? The processor is normally the last thing you'd check when you have a software problem.

Hello,
Thanks for contacting EA Technical Support and for your interest with EA Games! I would be very glad to offer assistance regarding your concerns. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with the game due to crashes.
The key to making sure a game will work on your computer is making sure your computer meets the minimum requirements. This means not only meeting the physical hardware requirements, but the software requirements as well. The software drivers used to operate your video and sound cards must be up to date, and more importantly installed for a game to work properly.
First, let us check if there are other programs that are conflicting with the game. Background applications such as anti-virus programs or even emulation software are often the cause of conflicts.
• Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time
• Click the "Processes" tab.
• Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User Name to sort by user name.
• Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
• Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names.
• Click on END PROCESS
• Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile.
Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system.
If you receive a warning for any of these, don't worry it is a standard warning message and is expected. Please click "yes" and continue.
Next, you will need to lower a Hardware Sound Acceleration setting on your computer to "basic". This is to check if your sound card is causing the conflict. To do this, follow these steps:
• Click the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your Desktop.
• Click on "Run".
• Erase any text already in the run prompt.
• Type in: dxdiag
• Click the OK button.
• Select the sound tab at the top of the tool.
• Set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Slider to "Basic".
• Click "Exit" in the bottom right hand corner.
And sometimes the advanced features of the ATI Radeon series of video chipsets can cause issues with the game you may be experiencing. To disable these features please go over the following:
This issue can be avoided by setting the Wait for Vertical Sync to always off. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Right-Click on your desktop and select “Properties”.
2. Click on the “Settings” tab on the upper right of the display properties box.
3. Click on the “Advanced” button just below color quality.
4. Select the “ATI 3D tab”.
5. Click the “Use custom settings” check box. (Skip to 6 if A check mark is already displayed in the box.)
6. Click the “Custom button”. The ATI 3D Properties window will now displayed.
We will not set the Wait for Vertical Sync is now set to Off:
1. Set the Wait for Vertical Sync: to Always Off, by moving the slider all the way to the left
2. Click, Apply
3. Click, OK.
The Wait for Vertical Sync is now set to Off.
If the trouble continues, repeat these steps 1 – 6 and set Antialiasing and Anisotropic filtering to 2x.
On the ATI 3D Properties page:
1. Uncheck Application Preference for Antialiasing and Anisotropic filtering
2. Set them both to 2x, by moving the slider all the way to the left
3. Click, Apply
4. Click, OK.

Edit: Interesting! Adreniline, feast your eyes on part B of the 2142 troubleshooting guide!
CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result in a black screen being shown.

I found a really nice-looking 7300 at TigerDirect.com for a really good price. And 512MB of memory also.Sniper_eye wrote:Where do you recommend that I buy that item?Ipodzanyman wrote:not anymore....
I really think it might be worth it if you have the money to spend...which isn't really a lot. Only $55 after rebate. It should also make virtually everything graphics-related on your system run much faster, so I think it may well be a worthwhile upgrade. Even if 2142 runs on your current card, this would really enhance the performance.
That might also help...but then again, maybe not...if the graphics card just can't run the game at the default settings.[RDH]Zerted wrote:Try starting the game in windowed mode.

To tell you the all-honest truth, I am really at my last straw. Right now, I am just experimenting with Garry's Mod. I like Garry's Mod now more than 2142.
P.s. GMOD is a valve sandbox game that lets you entertain yourself by using physics as destruction. Same developers as Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

lol, yeah. But that's interesting, how long have they been in business?ShadowHawk wrote:outpost.com is also frys.com, since it is logo as such, they may be making a domain name change. Fry's sells a lot of OEM vid cards so going there may be the least expensive choice (If you have a fry's store, you can get them there too, but stay away from open boxes. Trust me on that)
