Dead body stuff/Hoth hunt

Post by AnthonyBF2 »

Ok, I've read all the things about how we cannot make dead bodies stay on the map, but I know it can be done, I have been modding some stuff on Hoth hunt, when I occasionally come across a dead Wampa or rebel that hasn't evaporated. This is something I have seen more than once and seems to be repeatable, although random. This time I took video proof.

Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbU5UyCR8aA

Let me back track a bit now, I like to modify the existing content a lot, and some times to see if I can use mods server-sided without a crash to server or client(this allows anyone to join without having to install anything). A few months ago I noted that the existing Hoth hunt mission calls Snow speeders and Tauntauns, but are not actually defined on the map file.

So I edited Hoth hunt Cps, setup vehicle spawns, etc... then I had vehicles on Hoth hunt (goofy enough already, lol), I had already allowed Wampas to drive vehicles before (so they can use turrets by removing the code NoEnterVehicles from the odf file.

And of course this works server-sided because I'm not actually adding physical objects (that's a guaranteed crash)

So after setting it up and playing a little bit, I come across a Wampa riding a Tauntaun, and blew him up

Only to notice the Wampa body didn't disappear.
Now just a few minutes ago prior to this message, I figured how to set up rebels to fly without causing a crash to client or server.

After testing everything and in general, blowing stuff up I come across what you see in the video. 2 rebel bodies that had not disappeared.

At this point I have to think there is something causing the bodies not to go away.
It could be flying for rebels, and something to do with vehicles for Wampas.

I cannot repeat the.... mod? you can call it on any other level, or with other characters, vehicles, etc, Just in Hoth hunt using my current setup... which actually totals in at 5 or 6 unkilled cps, added speeders, tauntauns, wampas and rebels all can fly, and a few teleporters setup and the ability to break those useless shuttles parked on the rebel spawn, with wampas that ca drive vehicles and turrets.

So with all that I am not exactly sure what causes the permanent dead bodies but I would like feedback, and theories, perhaps it can be exploited for other uses.

I don't know what's causing the bodies to be suspended like that, but I at least know the spinning rebel is a common bug. If you can find a place that suspends units indefinitely so they are in a falling state, then respawn (killing your player), the body will continue to "fall" and constantly drop health/ammo/buffs. People did this all the time on Mos Eisley Hero Assault "Dueling" servers, putting a dead Chewbacca on the end of the sand barge so players would have a constant and easy supply of health between duels.

The explanation here is that something, likely a glitch caused by dying on a tauntaun or in a snow speeder, is causing the bodies to stay afloat as opposed to hitting the ground. Thus, they persist.

The rotating body bug, I can think of places on half of the maps, even in space levels where you can do it.

Removing "FleeLikeAHero" from a hero's odf prevents the dead body glitch, so it then would act like a trooper death even if getting stuck in a place like the Mos Eisley sail barge.

Apart from that, I noticed as a trooper(or hero without flee code), with team damage on, you can kill yourself into dead body locations and get the infinite rotating with power up spam.

Edit
Note that in my particular result here, the rotating rebel is not dropping power ups - I have snow rebels and Wampas modded also to drop only dual packs.

The flat non-moving bodies also never drop ammo and health.
Something is fishy with this particular result :?

Removing FleeLikeAHero prevents some, but not all, of the dead body glitches. I know because I used to put them up with regular old sniper and jet trooper units around Mos Eisley for giggles. All bodies, even flat, non-spinning ones, need to hit the ground to disappear. Case in point: I don't know how often you messed around with wall glitches online, but if you remember going outside the Death Star map with some jet troopers, and someone died by falling into the endless void, whenever someone was waiting to respawn, the spectator camera would focus on a tiny falling speck, because that jet trooper's body hadn't disappeared yet.

I'll grant you that the bodies aren't dropping powerups, I don't know what's causing that, but that's possibly because you modded the drops. You could potentially test this by only editing the drops for, say, Chewbacca on Mos Eisley, and putting him in the barge, seeing what happens. But I can guarantee you that what's happening here is that something, my guess being the units getting killed while in a vehicle, is causing the bodies to not hit the ground.

I have the value for dual packs set on 5.0, this is more than enough to make every dead body drop 1 pack.

I really don't know where I'm going with this, just curious about the dead body bugs.
