How do you make animations?

Post by Dakota »

i am just wondering how to make new animations, what tools are needed, is it hard or easy, does it have a tutorial. i mean making completly new animations like BF0 did, not just rearranging the stock animations.

It depends of what you mean by "animation". In any case you will need modeling knowledges and XSI.
You can make new saber animations folowing Gogie's tutorial here: http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... 07#p210807
If you want to make a playermdoel animation (ex: new death anim), I don't really know hoc to do it, but you should ask someone like naru, Spidey or DarthD.U.C.K (not quiet sure but I think he mades great anims somewhere).

making new animations, especially for units, is a rather complex task. you need a good knowledge of xsi and the animation tools and it will take some time until you can create unitanimations that are rent looking half-bad.

It would honestly be easier if you let someone with experience do it. PM me about what you need and I may have them made for you, since I know everyone who makes animations(that are still active).

Or if you would like to have the joy and knowledge of how to do it yourself, as mentioned get familiar with xsi, start off with perhaps just creating a new unit that way you would learn about enveloping and seeing how moving the bones affects the model. From there you could move on to some simple animations.
Once you understand that and can get them in game and looking wonderful there are now limits as to what you could accomplish.

Or if you don't want to get into it to that degree you can ask others to see if they will do it.

Nothing to do with being awesome (joke or not) but rather the desire to further ones abilities.

and please limit your responses to things that contribute to the topic at hand.

it looks like i'll have to download XSI then. i tryed working with a tool called blender but i never got around to converting the model, which was only a cube anyway. i kinda just wanted to learn how to do it myself just so that i could do it without having to have someone do it for me.

well i'll look at XSI when i get some more time.

You can view and follow along with THIS animating exercise by Noesis to become familiar with animating in Softimage. The scene files for this tutorial can be found HERE.
