Alice in Wonderland
So who has seen the new Johnny Depp movie, Alice in Wonderland? I got to see it last Friday because it was my b-day and I have always been a major fan of Johnny Depp. If it wasn't for him, I would have forgotten the whole thing altogether. He really made the movie for me. Anyway, I thought it was a well-cast movie, a few funny parts... of course Johnny Depp always plays a weird character and this movie is no disappointment since he does play the "MAD Hatter". I've never seen the original film other than the Disney animated version and I believe I only saw it once when I was a kid and barely remember anything about it. If you're a fan of major Johnny Depp, then I would strongly recommend seeing this movie.

Re: Alice in Wonderland
It has brilliant acting for the most part, visually stunning and creative, witty Lewis Carroll-esque dialogue with countless references to Carroll's works. However, it falls to the fate of many movies these days, which is poor storyline and writing. For such a creative and trippy movie, the plot is incredibly...normal, stereotypical movie cliche's everywhere, especially towards the end, at which point it stopped taking itself seriously (case and point: the hatter's dance). This could have been a great movie, had they put a bit more effort in creating a unique storyline to fit the unique and eccentric characters.
The clever and entertaining characters and the psychedelic and colorful imagery make it enjoyable to watch however. Depp did his typical spectacular job with the Hatter, tho he sunk back a bit into Jack Sparrow a couple times. But he wasn't the star of the show in this. That goes to Helena Carter, who did an amazing job as the Red Queen, just delightfully psychotic. Anna Hathaway's portrayal of the White Queen was less interesting, and was probably the most normal of them all. Paul Whitehouse did a great job as the voice for the March Hare, who turned out to be one of my favorite characters out of all of it. The Cheshire Cat, voiced by Kingsliegh, was also done spectacularly.

It looks and sounds like a good movie but I think I'll wait until it comes out on VHS/DVD and probably rent it as always.
It was originally a book by Lewis Carroll. This current adaptation seems to be a sequel to I do not know what version exactly.Nova Hawk wrote:I've never seen the original film other than the Disney animated version and I believe I only saw it once when I was a kid and barely remember anything about it.

I never thought I'd say I was looking forward to see Alice in Wonderland, but it's true. It didn't hit the cinemas here yet (glad it will btw), but I plan to go next week. Tim Burton is a genius.

I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. It looks bizzare.... but then again, how many normal Johnny Depp movies are there?

Okay, I forgot Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but he wasn't all that odd in Edward Scissorhands, apart from appearance.Fierfek wrote:Edward Scissorhands? And Sweeney Todd? If you call that "normal", I'm afraid to see what's "weird" from your perspective.....Lord Bardar wrote:Okay, I forgot Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but he wasn't all that odd in Edward Scissorhands, apart from appearance.Fierfek wrote:Edward Scissorhands? Re: Alice in Wonderland
going to see it now, i hope its not sold out, i dont like rubbing elbows with tiny crying kids or old people or fat people that breath heavy. (sorry if your any of those but it ruins my movie experience, i want 3d not chicken breath)
A rant about having the lift (and everyone else having it too)
Also on a side note why is it I feel like I have a rare job that lets me go out and do things while other people have 9-5 jobs but everywhere i go is slammed with people, and these arent normal things, they cost more then most people can spend, food, entertainment , whatever...who are the jobless people that are suffering right now? economy bad? where? I dont know a single person that is truly struggling right now and i swear I hear on tv, people are out of work and crying, where? All i see literally is people out of work having A$$loads of fun...beaching it...buying health food, back massages , yoga classes, noon imax movies in the middle of the day , people are jipping me of my early retirement, goto work people, where are the ants that do the daily grind....we need you back.... traffic blows.

Re: Alice in Wonderland
It's very loosely based on Through the Looking-Glass, which was Carroll's semi-sequel to Alice in Wonderland. By very loosely, I mean they took a lot of imagery and ideas from it, but it doesn't at all follow the plot of either books.AQT wrote:It looks and sounds like a good movie but I think I'll wait until it comes out on VHS/DVD and probably rent it as always. It was originally a book by Lewis Carroll. Re: Alice in Wonderland
3d was amazing, movie was weaksauce. depp truly has one acting style, pirate, he even went into pirate speak in the movie....some characters were cool , scenery stolen from lord of the rings. lots of ideas stolen from wizard of oz (end scene , i missed you most of all scarecrow)...this movie should be called lord of the pirates featuring burtons shwetty bwall.
