Maybe goofy is preferred? It is a little misleading when it says Goofy/Any.

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
I think that for now, the type of map submitted shouldn't be an issue. I really just want to see that the system proposed works. However, I do think that for future contests, maps should have a specific theme. For example, maps should have a theme, like a specific biome, (jungle, tundra, or desert), or layout (close quarters, canyon, etc.). This is just my two cents though.

re: Scoring/Judging system
I think that this:
Art: x/5 (or 10)
Tech: x/5 (or 10)
Creativity: x/5 (or 10)
Fun: x/5 (or 10)
is the best way to equally judge all maps. I will elaborate on what I think each is.
Art: The artistic look of the map. I think this includes things like lighting, the layout of the map, effects, and animations (animations only if the map has new animations). Does the map include custom assets? Stock assets? Is it visually appealing? These are the questions I would ask myself as a judge. This is a big one.
Tech: How well done the map is technically. I would put things like loadscreens, bugs/glitches, floating icons, localizations, and things like new game modes or scripted events here. New game modes/scripted events are not worth as much as the first 4, but should be counted here. This again is a big area.
Creativity: The overall originality of the map and creativity of it. Is the map creative, or has it been done a million times over. Is the map original and unique to the author? Does it include unique elements (both sides an map) that add to the map and make it overall better? For example, "does a map contain easter eggs?" is something that should go under creativity. Not as important as the first two, but should be included in the judging criteria.
Fun: Obviously, how much fun you had playing the map. Was it as boring as watching grass grow, or did you enjoy playing the map? If you really enjoyed the map, give the author at least a 4/5 here.
Now that I elaborated on this, I actually want to be a judge. May I be a judge? If I need to PM someone let me know in this topic. I think I would be one of the most equal and unbiased judges. I hope that this gives you guys an idea of what each area is. If I am wrong, correct me. This is just what I think. Good luck mappers/modders!

I think a better rating system would be just list the maps in a poll and give everyone 1 or 2 votes for what they think is the BEST overall, rather than a scale of several rating types. More simple to collect the data, more simple to compare several maps.

If this idea was in a "best rating system idea poll" I would use my votes on it.kinetosimpetus wrote:I think a better rating system would be just list the maps in a poll and give everyone 1 or 2 votes for what they think is the BEST overall, rather than a scale of several rating types. Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
I concur kinetosimpetus. I have spoken to the 411 Remnant and they'd be willing to announce the winner and honorable mentions of the contest when the voting deadline (Still needs discussion) is reached. I just wish there was a way to hide the votes so they could be announced in a video rather than being publicly displayed at all times. (Maybe a PM vote system?)

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
I'm in for it. I even thought I already joined.
But, I would still suggest to have a main theme or topic for the upcoming maps. We will not be able to judge and rate maps, when they are totally different in any way (sides, theme, gamemode, etc.). So why just leave it open?

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
Well, not to put anyone under the gun here, but I think that it was a rookie mistake. I think that any future mod contests should have a theme. However, for this one, I suggest we leave it as it is as I think that a few people (myself included) have already started making progress on a map of their choice. Again, I'm not trying to offend anyone, just my thoughts. I am really excited to have this map contest
On a different note, I dont think I got a response back (maybe it hasn't been long enough since I asked?) regarding if I could be a judge or not. I'm not trying to whine or beg, a simple yes or no will do. I would like an answer as soon as possible so I am not left in the dark come judging day.

Dunno if this has been asked before, but can you use assets from your other mods that have been released?

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
Reasoning with it, many other modders will use assets from stock BF1 or BF2 maps and sides I don't see any problem from using other assets from previously existing maps and mods. (Just as long as it's not a re-release)

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
What about unreleased assets from current mods? If I made a custom side for this, I'd want to make them in the same style more or less as my main project.

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
I'm really sorry, but I think I might have to withdraw from this contest.
You may have noticed that I have not been around much lately and thats because I've been so busy in real life with tests, projects, finals, work, and a lot of other things. I since the contest started I haven't even had a single chance to even touch my modding computer, which is also my brother's and he's been even more busy than me, and he is always using it for work too. So I don't think even if I was able to start now I would be able to catch up
Maybe later in the summer (late july-august) I could probably do a contest but my schedule has been a lot more cluttered than I thought. So yeah sorry

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
@kinetosimpetus - Hmmm, I'm honestly not sure about that one. It's debatable, you've worked on those prior to the mod resulting in less time needed for asset creation...then again same situation with the pre-existing BF2 and BF1 assets. I suppose it's alright, other modders are working on maps they've planned beforehand.
@Cleb - No worries Cleb it's perfectly understandable, can't possible work on mods all the time and some members lives are more chaotic than others. If all goes well with the contest I'm sure you'll be to participate in the next one!

I also have not started yet but what I was planning to make won't take me too long. I should be releasing a map either this week or next week.

Re: Mod Contest (04/30/13)
I've entered high school this year and unlike middle school we actually do stuff the last month and a half of school. My map shouldn't take too long and isn't too complicated so I might still be able to finish with memorial day weekend coming up, that said, I might not so just a heads up.
