RE: How to Extract models
You need to import the object into zeroeditor, and then save it as an object file ( the save as object button). Then go into XSI ( it has to be foundation or higher) and import the .obj file in and save as a mesh. then edit to your hearts desire!

Off-Topic : If you want to have the Foundation, you can download the 30 days-trial or buy it for about 500 US dollar (:|) at SoftImage's homepage...

If you wanting to skin an existing model, you might ask in the Glamour Skins thread. If you're wanting to physically export a msh model then put it in Softimage XSI and back out to msh you're better off not bothering. You can export a msh to a .obj file, but you're going to get a garbled mess of the model itself, plus all the collision boxes, no bones for animation, plus the UV maps for the textures will be gone. One or two guys have done it and made something of it, but they know XSI really well and know how to get rid of all the extra junk polygon by polygon.

You need to read the "Everything you need" sticky, as the fact that you are asking about "extracting" data from the game files makes me suspect that you have little or no experience modding SWBF, 1 or 2. Except for hex modding, SWBF modding is a highly one-way process. The mod tools contain all of the necessary assets, which you then put together with a terrain, paths, and regions in Zero Editor, and munge into a directory of .lvl files using mod tools VisualMunge. Basically, you can only add on to the game. Even just changing the texture of an object carries a degree of difficulties, depending on the type of object it is.
