Texturing an object
I am starting to get used to modeling, and I imported the generic republic rifle via Meshtool into Mod Tool 6. I turned it into a sort of carbine rife, but every time I try to do Wazmol's or Manderek's texturing tutorial, I cannot figure out what they want me to do. The buttons that they say to click I cannot find.
I think I need some navigation help.
Also, I have added a few cylinders and such, but I would kind of like to merge them together but cannot figure out how.
The end goal of this is to have a gun model, textured, and exproted via MeshEx.

Hmm? I thought MeshEx could only handle prop objects? Or does it support firepoints as well?
I can't really help you with your other questions though, I'm afraid.

I thought it could. It supports nulls.

I sure hope it can, otherwise all of my weapons will instantly stop working.

Thank goodness. Could someone help we my problem though? Just give me a walkthrough of using Mod Tool to texture my model, that is correct.

ALL my released weapons are *MshEx* exported.kinetosimpetus wrote:I sure hope it can, otherwise all of my weapons will instantly stop working.![]()
*even melee weapons*
I assume they don't work?
Its not hp_fire nulls that can't be handled. I believe it is complex bones or enveloping nulls that utterly turn MshEx intelligence into a sputtering vegetable.
So don't worry
@SKM - The magical merge button...is THIS what you are looking for?(1.)
When the pop-up menu comes up, the following buttons are of the only concern:
-Hide/Unhide inputs: Keeps ur original pieces of your new merged msh, but hides/unhides them
-Delete inputs: Deletes your original pieces instead
-Merge UVs: this is only important once you textured 2 models but want to merge them, use this to merge them but keep textures intact.
As for texturing, are you SURE the tut is hard to follow? Honestly it looks good enough to follow for me. Give me parts you are confused with, and I shall guide you(I prefer Wazmol's tut btw)
Also, its easier to follow the tut via *XSI Default Pro Mode*, which can be found from the dropdown "Modes" menu(2.)(could be XSI 6.0 exclusive though, *shrug*)

You can either choose to (keep and hide) the mshs that make up the merged polymsh, or (delete) them instead(personally, Id say delete them)StarkillerMarek wrote:So I hit merge, then what? What do I do?
Then voila! your 3 cylinders are recognized as a single object.

What? What buttons do I press?CodaRez wrote:You can either choose to (keep and hide) the mshs that make up the merged polymsh, or (delete) them instead(personally, Id say delete them)StarkillerMarek wrote:So I hit merge, then what? What do I do?

Right now I have: the republic gun with half of it polys gone, a cylinder to replace the muzzle, 2 nulls, one for the hp_fire, and one for the class parent.

As it was posted twice before:StarkillerMarek wrote:What? What buttons do I press?CodaRez wrote:You can either choose to (keep and hide) the mshs that make up the merged polymsh, or (delete) them instead(personally, Id say delete them)StarkillerMarek wrote:So I hit merge, then what? What do I do?

1. Select your objects 2. go to Create>Poly.msh>Merge 3. click the merge UVs button, then delete inputs button 4. your done.
Also, you may want to reread CodaRex's post, as it is pretty clear on what to do.
