RESUMED* RVIG2, New units revived

Post by Astute »

I'm currently at work porting my first map, RVIG2. I mainly want to port the map for its units, which I still enjoy playing. While i've tried time and time again to make these units more available (both in my custom levels and in official maps), i haven't had much opportunity or sucess. Thats why I'm starting this project back up, so my units can become playable for swbf2. To start things off, I'm tweaking and reskinning my units so they both function better, and are more appealing in game. Here are some of the pics of my progress so far.

Not much has changed with the storm commando. He has the same basic weapons, though his grenades and timed charges had to be tweaked. You can also see the skin is greatly improved.

As for my clone assault trooper, i'm going to redo the unit. I've come up with two designs, the Havoc Trooper and the Clone Infiltrator. The havoc trooper will sport similar weapons to the clone assault trooper, but they will be greatly improved. The Clone Infiltrator is a different approach, with similarities to the bothan spy. Here are the concept screens.

Havoc Trooper(mabye 15% done, really only worked with the helmet so far)

OR

Clone Infiltrator(rough draft, not sure on it yet)

Pretty odd designs, hopefully one or the other will do. I hope to add these to the official maps for play. If all else fails though, expect them in a future map.

Not sure about that visor on the infiltrator. It's cool though. I love the Havoc trooper skin however.

They're cool, but I'm not sure about the visor on the Havoc Trooper... the eyes look stretched if you ask me. Shortening them, or making them a different shape might help.

Those helmets are the bees knees. Funny thing, just last night I was trying to remember who made RVIG.

If you need anything lemme know.

Well, just got back, and i see that the opinions are across the board. The storm commando is pretty much done, and the new skin is so much easier to look at. Really, the infiltrator has some probloms with the skin, so the eye thing doesn't look right. The havoc trooper turned out better... though how many helmet designs can you make before they start overlapping? Anyway, I'm thinking of going with more cyroban-like weapons(grenade, carbine). The havoc trooper will most likely get my flame spitter again, with new flame images. I'm not sure if i'll be changing the function of the flame spitter. What makes it different from the regular flame thrower is that it can knock down and engulf enemies, as well as decimate turrets and heavy vehicles. If i go with the new design, it will function more like a single burst shotgun-like weapon, allowing you to knock enemies off their feet with an explosion of fire.

you use the search function, read the tutorials put out by people, and read the documentation.

On Topic:

I still don't like the havoc trooper at all. But I think the old flame spitter would be a nice break (especially if you add the flaming effect :P no damage but just the effect)

Well, the infiltrator has been dropped for now, as i like how the havoc skin turned out. I'm about done with the skin, i'm going to post two different versions and a poll.

The Storm Commando looks fantastic. I like the Havoc Trooper but I'm not crazy about his visor. I also like the Infiltrator, but like the Havoc Trooper, I don't like his visor.

Yep, i've very proud of the storm commando, so much fun to play too. The helmet on the havoc trooper is annoying though, but its seems to be the best i can come up with for the moment being. I've been working on the rest of the unit, looking pretty good. I've gone with the stripe design like the helmet.

Image

Ok, found my helmet design. Now beginning work on the weapons, will post if i get anything interesting.

Weapons:
1.Carbine - Finished
2.Flame Spitter - Finished
3.
4.

So far so good, the flame thrower is coming along nicely, though i still can't get the push to work.
