ah, i got it
in the ZZZ folder you should make the folders "msh" and "odf"
put the .odf's directly into the "odf" folder
put the .msh's and .tga's directly into the "msh" folder

i cant open the files in XXX/common/scripts/XXX, when i double-click it, it brings up something about windows not knowing "what created it". is there any download or something that can make the luas work?

You can open it with notepad, but I would suggest using something that color coordinates the code like Notepad++ so you can clearly tell if you're missing quotes, commas, brackets etc.

do i have to add another "tur......" thing in the lua for every one that i place? or does one insert of the specific tur thing cover for all turrets of its kind?

If you're just placing independent turrets that don't need shielding or aren't attached to an object, then you just need to load the turret once via the ReadDataFile parameter, and place as needed, but that's only if it's in a side file. If the turret is present in the world's files, then you don't add anything to the lua. If you need to use shielding, or connect it to a mainframe and such, then you add the individual instances to the lua as part of the code that links them.
