Re: SWBF1/2 -- differences between demos/betas and producti
Judging by the fact that there are Endor rebels with Rebel Pilots wielding Blast Cannons running around in the same shot, I've always thought that the Death Star Load Screens were taken in Battlefront 1. It's possible the map was originally planned as DLC, like Jabba's Palace, but moved to Battlefront 2 when the deadline was made to be much sooner than they thought.Fluffy_the_ic wrote:I'm sure everyone's noticed this, but during production SWBFII had green for friendly, as shown on the one of the death star loading screens.
Also, the biggest beta shot, other than the actual Xbox BFII gameplay, is the trailer itself. (Tean, make this sentence the video, for some reason whenever I do that flash thing I get a white box)
:12-:16 Not actually moving ships, this is someone moving against the ships with Free Cam
:17 501st clone lands on Utapau, CPs are still green. Most likely the demo build.
:18-:20 501st legion on Jedi Temple. It's pretty obvious that before more Episdoe III details were given to the devs, the map looked entirely different
:20-:22 Early shot of Mon Cal Cruiser over Space Tatooine. Tatooine is below the ship.
:23-:25 Beta Republic Hanger
:26-:30 Good shot of early Utapau. Many often think the map had an extra side, but I believe the film was just reversed to make it appear bigger. Note how it abruptly stops at cp6.
:31-:34 More Early Utapau. A different road texture, the campaign generator was used in map, but the cp2 area remained the same. It's possible these two shots were from different builds.
:35-:40 Lots of Space Coruscant Footage. Hanger shields are Red for the Republic, Blue for CIS. This feature was in the Xbox beta as well (I think, it's been some time)
:42-:43 Imperial Hanger, same as earlier picture. Possibly in the double hanger SD.
:44-:48 More Space Coruscant, shows the V-Wing being much faster
:50-:51 Tie Interceptor getting a kill, shows a HUD kill/points counter like BF1's
:52 Early Space Tatooine again. Tantive Ships are used as background elements (and are red)
:52-:54 V-wing uses blue cannons. Also, in the xbox beta, the cannons were changed again to blue Rep Gunship lasers before finally being changed to the Space Shotgun
:54-:57 The Xbox build of Space Coruscant, very similar to the final game's
:58-:59 Two people on the same team far out of Space Coruscant getting a team kill on eachother
:59-1:00 It appears effects disappearing still happened even back in the early Space Coruscant
1:00-1:03 Landing in the early Republic Hanger, also, was this voice in the final game? I don't remember it.
1:03-1:05 Once again, I'm pretty sure this video was of the Death Star in BF1. Look at the skins and animations.
1:06 Clones on Mustafar. Different lighting only, it appears.
1:07-1:08 Tantive hallway with the BF1 Imperial voiceover. There is a difference, and yes, I can hear it
1:08-1:09 Xbox Build of Utapau near the first campaign CP
1:11 Mustafar, random fire in the middle of the base (Damage?)
1:12 Tantive again
1:13 Mustafar again
1:14 From the BF1 trailer, Snowspeeder attacking AT-AT
1:15-1:16 Early Utapau again, note how different cp2 was
1:16 Shot from BF1 trailer on Endor
1:17 Darth Maul
1:18 ...THIS IS BATTLEFRONT 1. Again, this shot was in the BF1 trailer xD
1:19 Early Mustafar showing a slightly different Jet Trooper skin
1:19-1:20 Both scenes from the Battlefront 1 trailer. This is just getting sloppy now, as the Geonosis map was never used and the blue EMP Rifles are seen. Stop being cheap LA.
1:20 Battlefront 1 units on the Death Star again
1:21 A bunch of 501st blow up a Droideka. Note that the first campaign CP is in the background
1:21 AT-RT
1:22 Mace Windu in the Library of Jedi Temple. Similar lighting to the final version.
1:22-1:23 IFT-X on Utapau, looks like Xbox build of Utapau
1:23 Darth Vader cameo on Tantive
1:23 Early Utapau
1:24 Beginning of the 1:17 Maul clip over here for some reason
1:27-1:33 Another Reversed shot of Early Utapau, followed by two that aren't
1:34 Looks like you could get into the Gunships. Also, proof that the shots were reversed, as you always are facing the opposite way in the passenger seat for the Rep Gunship (After, a Jet trooper fires on Xbox Build Utapau)
1:35 Really quick shot of TIE Fighter
1:35-1:36 Jedi Starfighter on Early Space Coruscant (Early because the two CIS cap ships in the back are missing)
1:36 X-wing doing a barrel roll on Early Space Tatooine
1:37 ARC-170 getting a kill
1:38-1:39 Mace in the Library again
1:40-1:41 Obiwan on Utapau and Mustafar
1:41 Look at that. Mace near the outside CP on Jedi Temple. The walls are split up until the edge of the map, and the sky is Bespin Platforms'
1:42-1:43 Maul on Mos Eisley, which still had the old BF1 geometry on the ground
1:43-1:44 Obi Wan backflips and then fights General Grevious on Utapau
1:45 Utapau
1:46 Really old shot of Mustafar. I don't even know where that is.
1:47-1:50 Mustafar, near one of the staircases, near the lava bridges, and near the antenna.
1:50-1:51 Grevious blocking on Utapau
1:51-1:52 Maul uses an Air Attack near CP2, ground still using BF1 geometry
1:53 X-wing chasing TIE on Space Tatooine
1:56-1:58 Polis Massa
As you can see by this, they really should have waited for the game to be more finished before they filmed that trailer. This trailer is always kind of painful for me to watch, to see what could have been had LucasArts not rushed them to get it out for the Episode III DVD.

Re: SWBF1/2 -- differences between demos/betas and producti
i dont agree with utapau being mirrored
here's a comparisonpic of the left and the right side:
its true that these are two different versions (notice the glowcolor) but they have a completely different layout (alright maybe they changed it) but if utapau was this small all the time, what point would the flyers have? and it had flyers, otherwise the antiaircanon in the "coreship" wouldnt make any sense
the turret can be seen here at 02:56, there also seems to an opening (?) opposite the city

Haha, the frigates in the vid are doing what they actually should.
Circling each other and shooting at the enemy fighters as well as on the enemy frigate.
And I like the orange markings on the corellian frigate.

1:00 - Clone pilot jumps out with a blaster rifle. How could he get it in there?
Think that may be a alpha version of the hanger platform.Fusion wrote:1:46 Really old shot of Mustafar. I don't even know where that is

In Response to Darth Duck:
I believe those Gunships are the same that made it into the final campaign level. You'll notice multiple CPs being in their campaign locations, Obiwan being player controlled and Grevious standing and blocking like his AI still loves to do, leading me to believe that's what it was at the time and that those Gunships were never meant to be used by a player character. However, I believe the only reason that the film was reversed and you see a player in the Gunship is because of one thing: hype. During the trailer, you'll notice that they often go back and forth between showing it flipped and showing it normal, also between builds as well, to make it look asymmetric. They never once pass the big gray building (cp6) to keep this illusion. In fact, many were honestly surprised when they got into the Xbox Demo/Beta and could not get to the other side (I can remember seeing this on the LA forums, some just thought the big door was closed off because it was a campaign level).
Also, putting a player in the Gunship would cause even more hype, because that would "confirm" that land air vehicles would be returning, which is evident that Pandemic knew that would not be happening as the maps they made were too small for the speeds they made the vehicles fly.
But yeah, as I mentioned in my first post, about the Clone Trooper facing the wrong way:

That's how they look in BFII. While the arm is in the right place, he should be looking at the sinkhole wall in that position, not the map. Something screwy is going on here.

Are you saying he's standing on the wrong side of the gunship? If so there's places for characters to stand on either side in the actual msh file.

Re: SWBF1/2 -- differences between demos/betas and producti
@DarthD.U.C.K.'s ISD pic: The hangars are wider in that pic. The ISD does not appear to be any larger than the one we got. The scale is hard to discern, but both types of hangers are relatively the same height in proportion to the ship itself.
As to Darth_Spiderpig's first pic, I can't help but notice the Sentinel is being used instead of the Theta.
As to the third pic, I see three heavy turbolaser turrets with an explosion obscuring the rest. (I never liked that placement, btw.) Also, that's not the life support system, unless they also changed the scripts to include it as such. The life support would be behind the explosion if it's still in. (I did this for Boarding Action, so I know the placement.) That piece, by it's position, and despite the fact that the look is generally off, is the ISD's "reactor bulb". It's included in the SDK just like some of the other unused assets. It's a working destroyable object, btw, if anyone ever feels like using it. (imp_cap_stardestroyer_destruct1.odf) If I remember correctly, all it needs is a minor odf adjustment to give it a reasonable amount of health.
I played the MP beta, but I either uninstalled it, or it's stuck in limbo on one of the old HDDs. I still think it's funny that the Tantive's CP glitch was never adjusted, especially since it would've been a simple thing to fix. Really, I don't remember any major differences between the MP beta and the stock version, but it has been a long time.

@fusion: but what would the turret be good for then? to keep the illusion of it being not mirrored because then it would contain fighters?
in the trailer you can also see tht there were other platforms on the sinkholes walls (you see atleast one and the weird thing opposite the coreship), this could be another evidence for flyable fighters

@Duck The turrets are still there in campaign. I guess I should have clarified that in the "Why I think that was campaign" paragraph >.>
I'll try to find my old Xbox Demo later today to find more differences, but I do remember one.
You know how Morrison did all of the lines in Campaign for the various tasks you had to do? Well, apparently they hadn't hired him yet for the demo. The announcer actually sounded like the same guy who did the "Frak" Stormtrooper line. Assuming you all have heard that line (or misheard it
), picture this line in that guy's voice. "BY THE GALAXY! It's General Grevious!"
Thankfully they changed "BY THE GALAXY!" to the much less corny line, "By the force" in the final game

Here is how to play a map from the multiplayer beta.Marvel4 wrote:I just installed the BFII beta, how can I start it? You can just join multiplayer.
1) Go to the SWBF2 Multiplayer Beta's directory
2) Create a text file called playTan4CWConquest.txt
3) Open the file in Notepad and paste the code below:
Code: Select all
BattlefrontII.exe /gamename "Testing Map" /playercount 1 tan1c_con
5) Rename playTan4CWConquest.txt to playTan4CWConquest.bat

aahlright! im afraid i havet played campaign for years.Fusion wrote:@Duck The turrets are still there in campaign. I guess I should have clarified that in the "Why I think that was campaign" paragraph >.>
well that would mean that in the utapautrailer they showboth the old completely different "leftsided" layout with correct colors and the final layout?!
in the videos you can see both the left and the right layout with both green and purple colors, if they changed the layout from the left to the shipped right one and then changed the color to shipped purple, how can there be also a leftsided version with purple colors?

Umm, now it says "FATAL"
EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to work with some configuration from the internet.
But its not worth it, it's just the same as the full version, except for the menu and buttons look different.
