I don't know. Usually I do betas by sending requests to specific people. I might aim to a larger audience with this, since it's a larger mod, but it will stay in GT.

The last people I will consider will be anyone asking to test before I give the word, though.

DID I ask?! I was just wondering if anyone had been chosen out of pure curiosity. Ofcourse deciding if you want a bigger audience or just a few for the Beta is a BIG decision.

I personally think you should only have a picked number of people to Beta for you. Only the ones who helped you out. And maybe a friend or two just to be well friendly. But I really think that only the people who helped you out should get to Beta for several reasons.

1. They earned. This mod is a MASSIVE project. They deserve to get this.

2. You don't want to be swamped by thousands of messages giving you advice you don't need.

3. More people will download your mod if you do only a few Beta testers. When people download the Beta and find things that they don't like, even if you fix those problems, people may be inclined not to get it.
4. Easier to decide how to fix this and that with a smaller number of people. (See 2.)
5. It's cooler to have a "COMING SOON AMAZING MODDERS NEW ADDITION TO THE WORLD OF BF2!!"

LOL last ones more of a joke really.
Well that's what I think.

And I personally think Mav can pick his own beta testers and doesn't need someone telling him how to do so.

Very random idea:
Could you add a retextured endor/felucia fern to the felucians head to attempt to make it more like tfu felucians? Or would a whole new model need to be made???

I'm no modeler, put I think you need to have some sort of null or point on a model for it to be an addon .msh, and that model doesn't, but Mav could probably hex it.

Awesome. As direct as that is, he's totally right though. And certainly you're not winning any votes at the moment, Delta.

Dudes, no worries. I don't think he's trying to be inflammatory, and yes, I can and will choose how I pick my own testers so it doesn't really matter how many people tell me (in however many ways) how to do things. I've always got a plan. It's all good.

And I might add a bit more to the Felucian; if I do I'll make the mesh myself and not do something as tacky as adding a stock foliage model to it. And yes, of course it has a bone to attach it to, it obviously uses the human skeleton same as everything else (because it can use human animations).

It seems that you gentlemen are under a misconception. If you will read my reply you will notice that it states "I personally think" That statement implies that I myself think something (an idea or theory) that others may not agree with. It is an opinion that we are all entitled to.

If you look at my reply you will notice that it IS merely an opinion that is stating exactly what you are. Mav should choose his own and it's his choice I was merely stating an opinion that implies exactly what you are with reasons that I believe are adequate to the statement.

It also seems that you guys seem to think that I want to Beta. I don't want to as I feel I have done nothing to help with this mod and people seem not to identify my statements as I mean them to be identified therefor giving me a bad name. IF I am offered the chance to Beta I will refuse as I would not feel right of receiving an honor like that as I have done absolutely nothing to help in this great indever.

In summery I was merely stating an opinion that implies exactly what you guys are. I do not wish to Beta (though I can't, like so many others, wait for this mod to come out) for reasons that have already been stated above.

There it is.

This discussion is done. Everyone has now said their peace and I don't want Mav's thread filled with any more spam. We should all let this go, myself included.

Readily agreed. I shall cease my "rantings" in compliance to everyone's obvious wishes. If you have a contradiction just PM me.

Anyhoo, Mav are you going to add any custom maps to your mod?

I was talking about the foliage not having the points. Unless its Swamp-Thing.

Addon meshes don't need a specific point, because they connect at the root point to the assigned bone/hardpoint of the unit model. That's also irrelevant because every model has at least one hardpoint and that is the root (dummyroot).

Nope, don't want to get off-track. This is a mod I'm using to test a lot of gameplay doodads I wanted to try out, and stock maps provide just as good a palette as anything else.

.
Oh, I had always thought something made addons different from ordinary models, but I guess not.

Now back onto a more humane discussion, I may cry with tears when this mod comes out, just like I will when the Watchmen film comes out. That could be how awesome this mod will be.

And here is what I have been working on lately:

Wave Mode
Similar to Pandemic's "Clone Wars" 'Academy Mode' (or so I hear), wave mode is a singleplayer-only (for now) mode that pits one human player against hordes of enemies.

The player is given specific goals determined by the map, including one bonus objective (all of the following screenshots are from Death Star wave mode):
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
The player starts out facing only a few enemies, but after a certain amount of time, more enemies spawn. The faster the player can kill the enemies, the fewer enemies he'll have to face at once and the better his chances of survival will be.

(This will be a familiar sight):
Hidden/Spoiler:
Image
Once the subjects of one of your objectives appear on the map, they will be made evident, like this:
Hidden/Spoiler:

A couple things to note from the previous screenshot:
-You will get a reminder when a new wave starts
-There is a timer counting down until the next wave starts (the timer on the final wave indicates time remaining to complete all objectives)
-The blue number (normally friendly reinforcement count) represents the wave # you are on. The red number represents progress towards your hidden/bonus objective

Regarding bonus objectives; if you complete a certain unstated objective, you will receive a bonus (and more difficult) wave. The Death Star's bonus wave includes an objective to defeat the Emperor:
Hidden/Spoiler:

Note that this is not always easy:

Hopefully this will add some fun and challenging singleplayer content to a game mostly based around multiplayer. More to come.

Wow. You've done a good job "re-inventing" the wave mode.
