Jedi questions - Improve Dueling

Post by vampire_lord »

I am back with more modding n00b questions regarding combo files and overall jedi unit limitations, I know the engine wouldn't handle too much by itself, but I wonder if there can be a way to improve lightsaber/melee duels other than obviously adding transitions to guard state, that's the only thing I can think that can make dueling more accurate, jedis are cheap once they connect the first strike, and that's not even hard.

My idea is as I said, adding transitions to guard between each attack to cancel some recovery time and maybe reduce the stunning time.

Any other suggestions/advice?

Can't help you here, but I gotta say that it's nice that someone wants to improve it. The dueling in SWBF II is probably the most boring aspect in any game I have ever seen. I am pretty sure that you could make it way better.

look into metalcorerancors comboguide (jedicreationguide or something like that, can be found in the assetsthread) for some infos about combofiles
you can make awesome animationsets with .combo files, (with "hiddenattacks" etc.)
to reduce the stunningtim, just reduce the push in the combo
what do you mean with "adding transition to the guard state"?

He means adding a transition to block. Probably about transitioning from Block to ATTACK1. The best thing I personally can recommend for improving duelling is to add the Deflect state to every other attack state. That way, the attacks you do against enemies block the attacks their using. Changing the deflect angles from 90, to 360, makes the deflect hit the center of the map and preform "center block" making the deflect against a saber work properly. So if you do the things I've recommended, to each .combo, you'll see a drastic improvement in combat.

If you check out my SOTG vs WGO map's hero assault mode, you'll find some examples of what I've done with Jedi.. as of late I have not been able to sit down and make a similar map.

Thanks, the Jedi Creation has been useful in my earlier experiments, I got some nice results then, for example deflecting shots and missiles while attacking, it was pretty cool to knock back a missile by hitting it instead of blocking.

Adding transitions to guard state would give the attacks some cancel frames, that is Attack1> Guard or Attack2 > Guard > Attack1... and so on.

I thought a deflection angle of 360 would make the jedi to deflect attacks from behind.

Nope, 360 is for a full circle block.
