Fluffy_the_ic wrote:I personally prefer the XBox. All of the reason stated above mostly sum my reason up. A few more:
Hidden/Spoiler:
-The controller layout. I just can't stand playstation controllers.
- XBL Arcade, although I'm pretty sure that the PS3 has something like that.
-Backwards compatibility is gone from the PS3 now. I really like plenty of original XBox games, IE Halos 1 and 2.
-The menu on the xbox also has less going on than the PS3 layout.
-The "Save to Hard-drive" feature. I haven't used it yet, although a couple of my friends have and their Halo load times while loading the longest campaign levels went from about 2 minutes to just over thirty seconds.
-Blu-ray is overrated IMO. Sure, the disc is harder to damage, but to me that's not worth an extra 15 bucks on a newly-released movie.
-I'm pretty sure that the largest PS3 hard-drive is 80 gb, while the largest XBox one is 120 gb. Since XBox games apparently are less taxing, I'm assuming this means that not only does it take less hard-drive space to save games on an XBox than on a PS3, and you also have more room which amounts to many more games.
Nope, the Playstation 3 slim has 120 gb, and is the same price as the 80 gb ones.
They are both pretty much the same as games go. I don't know much about this, but Xbox has Gears of War, Playstation has Metal Gear Solid. See my point? Halo 3 is a big exception, but who knows what people are working on. This is a tough decision to choose, between Xbox and Playstation three. Undoubtedly, more peole have Xboxs because they are cheaper. However, more people with Playstation have reported satisfaction with their systems.

Both systems do what they are designed to do, which is play games.

I gotta disagree with the statement "they're pretty much the same as far as games go". Xbox definitely has more (significant) system exclusives. But still, it depends on what kinda games you like best.

I'm considering the Playstation, N64, and SEGA Genesis to be the first Generation. Playstation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox are 2nd, and now the big three (Playstation Wii60) are the 3rd. That's just how me and my friends do it, i dont' know where it came from. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, thanks for the input, guys! I'm still not 100% sure, but it looks like I'm leaning towards the Xbox360 when I get enough cash. Any further opinions are still welcome, but if this topic turns into shameless arguing, no warnings. I ask the admins to simply lock it without warning if it comes to that.

Like I said, the PlayStation numbers. :P I'm honestly not too sure about the console generations. I'm sure Wikipedia could explain it to me, but I'm not that interested. But, until Microsoft & Sony (or Nintendo if you still care at this point :P) start getting everyone excited about the next generation, I wouldn't suggest waiting. It'll be a while, even after we all get excited.

And you don't have to worry about the arguing & locking, our vigilant staff is always ready.

No, the PS3 slim has 120gb and is 299.99$. The Xbox 360 elite has 120gb and is 249.99$
The PS3 80gb reg has 80gb and is 299.99$.

This was written by cnet:
Product summary
The good:
Excellent selection of games, including many 360-only exclusives; all games are in native high-definition; user-friendly Dashboard interface; supports wireless controllers and accessories; Xbox Live service offers online multiplayer (with matchmaking and voice chat) and content downloads for most games; backward compatible with many--but not all--original Xbox titles; doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender; online Marketplace allows easy purchases of minigames, add-on gaming content, high-def movies, and TV shows.

The bad:
The Elite fails to correct most of the annoyances of the original 360 version: the noisy DVD drive and cooling fan; a gigantic, oversize power supply; no built-in wireless networking; only three USB ports; a substandard DVD player; online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live; proprietary wireless format limits third-party accessories.

The bottom line:
While it's neither a must-have upgrade for existing 360 owners nor as feature-packed as the PS3, the Xbox 360 Elite's combination of top-notch gaming and digital media features make it the current game console of choice.

Specifications:
Product Description: Xbox 360 Elite System - Game console ; Media Type: DVD-ROM ; Processor: 1 x IBM PowerPC 3 cores 3.2 GHz ; See full specs

I heard about this new thing coming out called OnLive. If you go on Wikipedia you will get more information than I can provide. Apparently all you need is a TV or computer and a fast internet connection and you can play any games, even on low-end laptops, at high graphical settings. You pay a monthly fee after purchasing the cheap as sin kit (which includes the "magic box" and a controller similar to an X-Box 360 design.

If I had a choice between X-Box 360, PS3 or OnLive, I would go with OnLive. But, that's just me. . .

Oo
Now THAT'S fricking sweet. Still think that the XBox would be a better choice, considering how there are so many great games for it, and on the XBox, if your internet lags, you aren't in trouble. If your internet lagged with that thing in an important spot in a game... :runaway:

i would say the PS3 because you've got more exclusives, free online, blu-ray (if you want), and it can be hooked up to a real computer. not to mention MGS4 blows Halo out of the water. us americans have some good original sci-fi stuff (star wars, star trek, stargate, not halo), but MGS is enough awesomeness to get a PS3. not to mention i'm more used to playstation than the xbox so it's a bit of a bias for me, as i hate the xbox controller to all corners of the nine layers of hell. that being a contradictory statement, being the nine layers of hell are rings and architecturally have no corners, i'll end my post here and say you decide what you think will benefit you the most.

Last time I was informed, PS3 =/= Backwards compatibility?

360 and PS3 have a very close number of exclusives, actually. In fact, it looks like most of the exclusives are coming to the 360, or have already gone to it. In fact, the next Metal Gear is for the 360 and the PS3.

360 can be hooked up to a computer as well, you can get your music and some types of videos using the media center.

Isn't MGS4 a single player game? That may be fun, like, once or twice a year, but with a multiplayer game, like Halo 3, it doesn't get old that fast.

Not sure exactly what you meant by sci-fi, but I know most of those are available on the 360's Netflix streaming. Yes, it costs money, but hey, at least you get quality for it.

I also hate the PS3 controller, I know they were trying to be different from Nintendo back in the 90s, but "triangle" button? Please go back to letters sometime.

Btw, according to Dante's Inferno (which I am assuming was your reference), there are only seven levels of Hell.
Now that we are on the topic of controllers, consider this: I am completely foreign to Xbox and PS controllers alike. Ihave know what they look like, I've played with them a few times, but other than that, I got nothing. Which controller is easier to learn/get used to IYO?

I like the X-Box controller because of its simplicity. Ofcourse all my friends had X-Box's and not PS3's so a lot of my own experience was on an X-Box. I think that the X-Box controller is more comfortable to use, but I am sure there is a way to transcribe an X-Box controller format to work with a PS3, though it would screw up all the commands now that I think about it. . .

I then, of course, disagree with that. I "grew up" with a dualshock controller, so I personally think that the ps2/ps3 controller is more simplistic.
I think that when it comes to controllers, it's just best to go for what "feels" best for you.

If you're more familiar with the Gamecube controller, go for the 360 one. The sticks, D-pad, triggers, and the start buttons are all in the same places.

Xbox 360 even if you only want halo 3. I've had hours of enjoyment out of it. That and I don't really like the PS3 games.

Do I need to say more?

I know my way around both controllers extremely well, owning an XBox and one of my best friends owning a PS2 with BF1 for it. In some cases, I prefer the Xbox controller. In others, I prefer the PS. Neither of them really are better than the other in my opinion. Anything beats the Wii. Although, it seems to me that XBox controllers have better battery lives. They come stock with needing normal batteries, although for $20, you can buy a rechargable battery. I know that it seems like a ripoff, because of the PS3's using rechargeable batteries by default, but whenever you get a new controller, you also need to go buy a new USB cable. The XBox rechargeable battery comes stocked with one, and it's pretty long, at that.
Just wondering, though, but are PS3's still so stupid as to only have 2-player splitscreen? I thought that Sony was just stupid in the 2-player splitscreen on the PS2, so an XBox is defitely a better investment than a PS3 if it's still like that, more so if you plan on playing with multiple friends over at a time frequently.
