Editing tgas gone weird.

Post by Lozza »

Every time I go to edit the all_inf_vanguardesert it shows up as a big checkered square.

I am using GIMP.

What wrong? Or what do I need to do to get it right?

I guess if you're having problems with GIMP, you can try using Adobe Photoshop or similar, load the TGA, save it as a JPG, then edit away in Paint. (I only suggest this for objects no larger than a V-Wing) Then when you're done, load your modified JPG with the program, save it as a TGA (32 bits, NO RLE compression!) then munge and play.

But this will delete the alpha channel, won't it?

Never ever ever do this. Paint is terrible and more professional programs like GIMP, Paint.net or Photoshop aren't that hard to learn, they just take a bit of persistence.

Really? Oh. :faint:
Well, I guess I'll have to play around with Photoshop some more.

in my opinion gimp is much better to start with. phototshop may have more tools etc., but gimps layout and design is more intuitive and you can pretty much learn it by yourself

Plus GIMP is free. :)

Paint.NET is also free, for that matter.

I wouldn't try Paint.NET, strange things happened after I restarted my computer after installing. GIMP didn't cause any problems and is also better in my opinion.

The only stupid thing about gimp is that once installed and ran it creates heaps of annoying files called gegl.co, tyro.4 and all those weird files in my documents and take up all the space.

That shouldn't happen. Did you install the latest version and install it properly?

I prefer Paint.NET. Mainly because I am really well aquainted with it now and it does everything I need it to. Plus GIMP takes about 3-4 times longer to load...

The new Paint is pretty good I must say. (just looked it up) I've been used to the old windows 2003 version.

I'm looking at the newest Win7 version, which I assume is the one you're talking about. GIMP, Paint.Net and Photoshop are still way, way better.
