BF2 crash
alright, i edited my map, went to VM and munged. I tried running bf2, but all i got to was the loading screen, which is the first screen you ever see when loading bf2, then it crashes to desktop.... i have a feeling its the bf2 mod stuff thats making this happen. i placed the bf2_modtools folder under lucasarts/battlefrontII/gamedata. anyone know what caused this?

Re: bf2 crash
what did you edit in your map? its more likely that then the mod tools, most of the time.
also, i woudn't recommend putting it in gamedata. i'm not sure what that does, but definitely move it outside, it can just be in the lucasarts folder, thats where mine is. do all your other maps crash aswell?

It helps to learn why things happen. What you can't have is the ModTools folder to be within a directory that has spaces in it. Yours works because the LucasArts folder is is not in a directory with spaces in it, such as "Program Files". The GameData folder is a fine place to put it if the full directory doesn't have spaces in it.sampip wrote:also, i woudn't recommend putting it in gamedata. i'm not sure what that does, but definitely move it outside, it can just be in the lucasarts folder, thats where mine is.
The reason that the directory can't have spaces in it is because the munge batch files mess up when dealing with spaces.

isnt it easiest to just keep the ModTools in this directory
c:\BF2ModTools?
that way you know there is no mistake, and it makes browsing for it easier.

@Faceman2000
The only thing you have similar is the fact that the game is crashing. This is its own separate unrelated problem. Deal with the errors from your munge, and if there are none, then the errors in your BFront2.log. If you still can't solve it, make a new topic instead of hijacking this one.

Re: bf2 crash
Three questions:
What is the full directory in which the ModTools folder resides?
Have you ever had another map that worked fine?
How fast is/was your first munge?

Re: bf2 crash
Reinstall the mod tools to C:\BF2_Tools. Like Frisbee said you can't have spaces in the install path.

Re: bf2 crash
alright i just posted that my bf2 still doesnt work, but now it does. i kept on launching it from xfire which xfire launching does NOT work... thats when it crashes to desktop after it loads its very first loading screen. but if i launch by double clicking on shortcut on my desktop, everythign works fine. anyone know why my xfire isnt launching it properly?
