RC Hud- Anyone got any Ideas?

Post by VF501 »

This is the Republic Commando 1st person view I'm working on. I have to setup the model from scratch because psychOfred only provided vague (no full view of it in XSI, just segments) reference pictures and no hard info on it. I think the face plate is some where behind the gun :P. So I set it up according to what I saw in the pics provided. I got this.

As far as I know, Fred never discussed how to do 1st person models here (especially so, since most of his posts are gone). I know the placement of it in XSI is off, but the animations are not working either. From what I gathered the skeleton is setup heirarchally, and not eneveloped, is it? Do any of you veteran modders from the early days know how 1st is done?

Yeah, from looking at the pictures, it seems that there are just two meshes for each arm, and they are simply placed under their repsective bones. This seems like a strange way of doing it, but it would save memory and processor cycles, so I guess it makes sense.

I don't think it would actually make any difference as to validity for the engine, so If you are more comfortable enveloping, you could porbably do it tht way. Also, you could do more complex things if you enveloped, like making reloading anims where the gun doesn't just drop off the screen, as well as having moving fingers.
