Model Textures :/

Post by SW_elite »

Ive got an awesome model of a rock and I want to get a few different textures onto it, like bump, occluision, displacement, colour and normal. When I open the msh in SWBFViewer the model is white with no textures on it, and the way that I got the model to msh format dosent include those texture in the msh file. I had an idear to use XVI to add them in but that extremely confuzing for me at my skill level. So I was wondering, is there some program that can add the textures into the msh file so that when I open it in ZeroEditor or SWBFViewer, there acctually there? If there is no such program then does anyone think that they could do it for me if I gave them the Model and the textures?

Umm....XSI?

With this "How to Texture" supplement tut.

And MshEx which converts said models to .msh with textures definitely intact?

What modelling program did u use anyway?

Hey. I'm SW_elite's bro.
I made both the texture and the model. It was made in 3DS Max 2009, exported as a .3ds file, then converted it using Crosswalk 1.0 to VRML2.0 (.wrl). This file was then loaded into swbfviewer.exe.

EDIT
BTW, we don't have access to the full version XSI, so anything XSI based is out of the question...

As far as the textures not showing up in the Msh Viewer, you have the textures in the same folder as the model right?

go into 3DS, save the .max and the .tga on the desktop together, reapply the texture from the desktop, then retry the exporting process and see if it works.

You could give blender a try. Thats what i use and its totally free and works perfectly for props and other objects. Can't be used for weapons/units or vehicles though, just props. It's really simple and can easily convert to .vrml and tonnes of other file types, including 3ds max.....

Do you mean .3ds? Crosswalk can only convert .3ds...

Well, I'm not a 3DS user, but the program I use prefers it when i make changes in the native file format.

Why would he throw away a program that he paid LOTS of money for just to use some free one?

Gave your idea a try RougeKnight, but not working...
All I really need is a program or utility that will link the model and textures together, rather than having to manually edit the Hex using XVI32.

I've tried pulling other models apart that are included in the Mod Tools, and they all have the textures attached to them, so really there has to be some way to do it...

Do either of you have xfire? If you need this rock now, I can possibly remedy the problem and export it for you.

The only thing is, its not just one model... It could wind up being 100's... We just don't know yet...

Together, me and my bro are looking to make a map and release it here and we aren't sure yet how many models we would need.

*Thinks to self* Maybe I should get XSI? *Stops thinking to self*

Firstly GL, pls don't double post.

Secondly XSI is a free program that is easily accessible. (link in the modding 'everything u need to know" or "modeling tools" topics)

Beyond that, I can't help you. .3ds models are readable by XSI too, if that helps.

Yeah its harsh, but if a free program can do a better job, well its a lesson.
Probably until they can grasp this better a free program is ok.

My apologies. Didn't mean to...
So let me get this straight, XSI is free, but autodesk softimage isn't? And XSI is just an addon to softimage?

XSI is free. Some variations of it require payment. But all you need to produce props (i.e. ur rock) are in XSI free versions.

Drop by the "Modelling" Thread and u can DL the installation.

Then once ur done crunching thru some tuts and stuff getting ur model right follow the texturing tut I gave a few posts above, and in that post is MshEx used to export ur model to a workable .msh format. Ur texture(if u follow the tuts right) should show up without hindrance.

Of Course if u can't wait, pm me the model and I can work it up for ya, but I advise you at least learn XSI or ur current program properly while I am doing that.
