System Idle Process

Post by Caleb1117 »

Ok Everything on my computer has started to lag, not just online stuff. SWBF MP and SP, even ZE lags! When I hit ctrl + alt + del and look at the current processes I see "System Idle Process" it uses 98% of my CPU!

I'm fairly certain that is the problem, now how do I fix it?

Try rebooting your computer. That sometimes fixes it for me when my computer starts to lag.

That is actually normal, your computer isn't really doing anything at this point in time so 98% of the CPUs
processing is idle. What you should be checking for is abnormally high numbers in the other processes when
you are in a lag condition. Let the programs run CTL-ALT-DEL to call up task manager and then see whats using
what.

Fragme basically said it all. It is the amount of CPU that is idle, not used, so 98% of the CPU is idle. At the bottom of task manager on your pic, it says CPU Usage: 2%, not 98%.

Thats odd, when I try to restart my computer. the monator goes blanks and the computer sort of turns off. all the lights stay on. however it never starts back.

and none of my processes are useing alot of memory... virtual or regular.
when I was running ZE it was using over 200,000 kb in memory :?
Seems high.

That is all dependant on how big your map is, but it does seem high.

-OFF TOPIC- Never use your computer during a thunderstorm. It can fry you and/or your computer.

The slowest part of most computers is the hard drive. Defrag it.

That would be a good idea. Also, when it happens, take a screen of the performance tab for us.

System Idle process normally refers to the amount of CPU not being used. You're probably fine.
