Unique UVs

Will an .xsi model exported to mesh still support my texture if I create my texture projection as say, a cubic projection rather than unique UVs?

Well, now I feel like a dope for slaving myself to unique UVs for so long, when it would have been so much easier to do other texture projections. Thanks for the heads-up.
