Its real easy. I just did it
All you have to do is delete the entire interior except the main hangar (doesn't work on CIS cap ship) then get a CIS hangar and put it in the cap ship so that the doors to the main hangar line up (the one that people walk through). There is a file for closing the open ends of the CIS hangar. Then you basically have a massive indoor room and you just add walls and stuff from there. It doesn't totally redisgn the interior but it does make it 10 times easier

No, the hallways wouldn't fit perfectly, you would need some sort of model that could attatch the different kinds of doorways together. If you used to play with those wooden trains you know how sometimes the tracks didn't fit so you had to get a special track to connect two other tracks? Its something like that.
