Internet Connection Woes

Post by TheTao »

I'm having problems with Windows and my network connections. On this computer, it's suddenly decided to suddenly drop the connection every, oh, I don't know, hour and a half or so. The real kicker is that when I hit "Repair" the window pops up and says "DISABLING NETWORK ADAPTER..." and then just hangs. It doesn't freeze, I can't hit Cancel, I can't X out of it... it just stays there forever. If I try to restart the computer, it freezes at "Windows is shutting down..." and I have to jam the hard reset button. I've already checked and I'm clean as far as spyware and viruses go. Please, help!

Recently I've been hacing this problem as well. Except my computer doesnt freeze, but the connection gets choppy and disconnects every ten minutes. I phoned my ISP, And they said it wasnt a problem with their network. They told me many electronics nowadays interfere with the router's signals. So finding out which eletronic device is screwing your connection might do the job.

Alos, someone may be performing Denial of Service attacks on your connection, especially if you have wireless.

Check to see if your using a phone nearby that is cordless and under 2.5 ghz. All of those cn interfere with wireless connections.

What type of netwrok connection do you have?

Repair can take some time. It has many steps and all of them have their own timeout times.

I'm pretty sure it would timeout after three hours. I left it once.

Anyway, here's as much as I know about my setup. It's DirecWay, I use small Wireless-B 2.4GHz Linksys network adapters, and I'm on a satellite-broadband connection.

-bump-

I'm still having trouble with this. I have no interfering devices, which is the most perplexing part of the problem.

Wireless-B 2.4GHz Linksys network adapters <----- have you tried using any other adapaters. in my experience i have seen 2.4 ghz get problems if even someone within a football field away is using same ghz. ie cheap crappy phones...other home appliances which are using this same frequency very often nowdays. Other then that , someone could be outside your house farkin with your connection on a laptop. :) i used to do that to people and get all their goodies....err i mean i knew someone , who knew someone. ;)
