New skins and units?

What do i need to do to make fully new skins and units? (not editing pre existing ones) I looked in the faq but did not notice anything.

I want to make a new skin not edit a shipped one and I want to make a new unit not change a pre existing one.

What do you mean by "make a new skin, not edit an existing one" and "not changing original units but make new one"

I want to make a new skin for a mine i tried copying and renameing the pre existing mine skin but it did not work. How do i make a fully new skin? Also what files do i need to make to make a new unit.

Why wouldn't you edit the original skin, just make sure to back up the original file.
And in what way do you want to make a new unit?

No i made a new type of mine and want the shipped one AND the new one. i want a new unit for a side mod i am working on and dont know what files i need to make.

If you don't know that, find out so by making a new side, with all the necessary files for only 1 unit. This way, you can see exactly what the hierarchy of an unit should look like.

Maybe he wants to learn how to model or hexedit? Or maybe he wants to know everything about side-modding?

All right i will b as clear as possible. I made a new type of mine called infmine i copyed all the common files that mines need renamed them infmine.msh infmine.tga ect. I changed the color of the infmine skin using gimp 2.2 i made new odfs and referenced the new files and skin thing but in game they still looked the same they do what they were supossed to do but the skin did not change.

If you change the tga name, it must have the same number of characters like the old name and you must change the msh so the new name is in it. Do you know how to do that?
Or maybe he just wants to learn how to fly?

Make a new tga file with gimp and make it what you want.

You don't edit the msh to do this, but rather edit your tga name to be the same as the odl one.

OH sorry. You need to make a new odf for your mine with the new texture, and put this line in your new mine's odf:
