Eriadu: Mountaintop City (Released!)

Post by bobfinkl »

Hi everybody I just wanted to announce the coming release of my new map Eriadu: Mountaintop City (will be released sometime this week I just need to put in a couple rainshadows then I'm done).

Storyline:
CW story: As the CIS prepares it's advance force on it's base in the toxic atmosphere of Eriadu the Republic quickly sends a strike force of the 450th legion to destroy this threat.
GCW story: Since the clone wars the atmosphere of Eriadu has become clean enough to survive in without a mask and makes for a perfect rebel base, too bad the Empire knows and is sending a legion of stormtroopers to destroy the rebels once and for all.

Now about the map:
It is a large urban map on two Giant mountains with two bridges connecting them, I have also added the kamino effects and fog so it appears as if you are millions of meters high up in the atmosphere.

Sides:
All sides are custom and totally canon to all the movies with one weapon to all units except heroes and snipers (and grenades + buffs)

Basic Class setup:
Soldier: Base soldier class is a balance between Heavy Gunner and sniper
Sniper: Has most powerful weapon, very fast and accurate, lowest health
Heavy Gunner: Has strongest/fastest weapon, most health, Slowest unit, innacurate weapon

Rebels:
Rebel Soldier: Blaster Rifle
Rebel Marksman: Sniper rifle
Rebel Field Commander: Modified Blaster Rifle (this is just a beefed up rebel soldier with a strong blaster and more health)
Hero: Han solo

Empire:
Imperial Stormtrooper: Blaster Rifle
Scout Trooper: Sniper Rifle
Imperial Heavy Gunner: Heavy Blaster rifle (unit is a enlarged stormtrooper with a large weapon and more health can inspire anger in units)
Hero: Boba Fett

(Automatically set to hard)Republic:
450th Clone Trooper: Blaster Rifle
450th Clone Sniper: Sniper Rifle
Galactic Marine: Advanced Rifle

(Automatically set to easy)CIS:
B1 Battle Droid: Blaster Rifle
Assasin Droid: Sniper Rifle
B2 Super Battle Droid: Laser Cannon (An enlarged Super Battle droid with a very strong innacurate weapon)

Clone wars has no heroes due to the storyline.

Now I'll let the pictures describe the rest:

If anyone has any suggestions post them and I'll see if I can fit them into the map. Hope you like it :D .

My only suggestion would be to lessen the mist a bit. I like having mist, so that you can't see every inch of the map at once, but I'd recommend not having so much that the view distance is 10 feet. Other than that, it looks great .

Thanks, you can look forward to me releasing it even before next week I just have to place 10 rainshadow regions then it's all done.

Oh the mist is just like that because I have graphics on lowest to prevent crashes due to graphics and I have never been hindered while sniping even in the fog.

Oh and I forgot the credits.

Credits:
Theultimat: Loadscreen, Beta testing
Fai222: Beta testing
RepSharpShooter: the DMI pack which included almost all the objects I used
Xavious: Helping fix my rainshadow regions
Culvar: Saving my map from a localization error
Ka-Ching: Beta testing

EDIT:
Oh and for those with almost no memory left don't worry this map is only 36.5 mb!

Wow I might even upload it today I'm making so much progress  . Well you can look forward to this very soon (only reason why I posted is so everyone knew it was coming and I could get suggestions and if people like it or not. No worries about the fog there's only one (object) of the fog setup. And anyone who wants lightning don't worry I already have it thanks to Ka-Ching's suggestion I also have the rain :D .

EDIT: 2 more screens added

Looks good, though the amount of fog will probably lag my game horribly.

Well then why don't you play the map?

Download Link:

For those of you without Winrar use this link:

I'm pretty sure it won't lag you but you can't be sure until you play it.

Enjoy!

Could probably be in the released board now...

My review:

It was a good map overall, but could have benefited from a tad more variation in the buildings, instead of just the DMI prefabs. You're right, it didn't lag on my machine even with the settings on high, although the sides could have been a touch more varied. Great map gameplay wise although I tended to get lost in the maze of buildings. DL if you want, it's a good map.

Sorry about the buildings I spent hours looking for good buildings that would fit but I couldn't find any other than these, since I couldn't find any I decided to just really make it a basecamp for the CIS not an actual city (that's why the city doesn't have a name). I may find some more buildings and then put them in at some point and yes I know the fog doesn't lag unless you are in it and there is only 3 odfs of fog placed so no lag at all. Oh yeah I almost forgot I'll go post it there right now thanks.

Thanks for the good review I'll be sure to keep it in mind for the next release :D .
